Nah. He was doing very well. He just got caught during an exchange, and Montiel followed up perfectly.
Props to Montiel, but it was more of Hasegawa did not know how to react than Montiel following up perfectly.
i think this is enough to get montiel in the hallf of fame. considering his disapointments (johnson, gonzalez, that valdez guy), the KO's of hasegawa and castillo are great results, the fight with ivan hernandez was a clinic of offense and defense, and the fight with melendez was a superb war. i have to wonder re hasegawa. he's not fought a world class fighter since veeraphol, and he has long been talking about moving up in weight. perhaps he will do his best work up at, say 122 pounds. this opens up some interesting fights. montiel vs donaire, surely. a "name" for montiel; a fight that offers donaire something. and hasegawa could move up and fight either countryman nishioka, a hard nut who defended his WBC title by KO on the undercard; or the excellent thai poonsawat kratingdaenggym, a relentless pressure fighter.
Hasegawa postfight presser and the stoppage scene.. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELz4Y8fqxAI[/ame] hope the Japanese recovers well from this and goes on also tremendous double lefthook from Montiel such things can happen and Hasegawa was the better man before..
That was a tremendous double left. Hasegawa looks more emotionaly hurt than physicaly, I hope he takes this lose well and gives us more great fights. Props to Montiel, Viva Mexico!
