Was not able to catch this fight.

Sounds like a great scrap for me. Did not expect Montiel's win, but I think one can not really discount a warrior's heart.

No Hasegawa is still the most skilled boxer in 118lbs and also around that division also very fast handspeed and decent pop but Montiel beat him in 4 by a tremendous double lefthook :deal
but he was not able to box with that guy..
    great win however :thumbsup

Yeah I clicked it after I saw the results on Boxrec.. not sure why.. just habit.. didn't even see if it was a public poll or not.. neither do I care. Polls on message boards don't mean a damn thing.

People on ESB like to act like they are a genius when the get the **** right, but don't say **** when the get it wrong. Thing is in a lot of fights, you just don't know. I honestly thought Hasegawa would win on points, just for the fact I thought Montiel's best days were behind him.. but I'm a big fan of Montiel. I just thought he had lost a step (or 4)... and from the sounds of it.. he has.. he just was able to land a big shot and take advantage.

    yep in the first
A shockwave of WBC bantam champ Hozumi Hasegawa’s annihilation by Mexican Fernando Montiel has extended as we now realize that the Japanese hero suffered a fracture on the jaw bone. It wasn’t produced by Montiel’s coup-de-grace, a devastating left hook, just prior to the 2:59 stoppage of the fourth but by an unrecognized punch during the opening session. The ex-champ reflected, saying “I began to feel an acute pain at the molar tooth in the first round when I took Montiel’s uppercut. I didn’t care and kept fighting. As the exam proved my jaw was broken, I realize it happened in the opening session.” He hurriedly returned to his native Kobe city and will undergo a surgery to fix it there. His manager/trainer Masato Yamashita strongly expressed his wish for a rematch with Montiel, though Hasegawa himself hopes to take a rest and consider what to do. Before his surgery is done, they will make a final decision on the dethroned champ’s future.

    Hopefully Hasegawa.

And hopefully the next poll is left open-ended without a close date so I can continue to expose suckas after the results come in.

Disturbing to read accounts of this fight. Not so much in this thread. But so far I haven't seen anyone put into words what actually transpired. Hasegawa was completely having his with with Montiel before the stoppage. That left hook is as close to being a "lucky punch" as I have seen in recent times. I give Montiel all the credit in the world, probably wanted him to win going in - but facts are facts. Hasegawa was blatantly superior as a boxer as well as a fighter in the ring that night. Exciting outcome though, and excellent show leading up to the finish.
