In the 4th 24-7, PBF-Mosley episode, Shane said...

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by LordSharpshire, May 2, 2010.

  1. That he was having trouble making weight. This was when the USADA guys showed up just before Shane and Co. were getting ready to go to Vegas. The USADA guys said they wanted a urine sample and Shane said he could give him a little bit.

Then you hear Shane's voice talking about how it's been difficult making weight--that he hadn't been eating/drinking properly so he could make weight. Shane basically said to the USADA guy that he hadn't been drinking much water--so he couldn't give him a full sample.

So, whether or not that's entirely true, and that Shane was telling the absolute truth, let's assume he is for the sake of argument.

If the above is true, maybe his performance last night had something to do with the fact that he just has a hard time making welter. I mean, we all know most boxers cut weight and all, but, what if all the hard training he was doing, coupled with the general hoopla of this fight just had him mentally and physically exhausted before the fight began?

In no way shape or form do I believe that Shane was "shot". No way. But, maybe he would've been even a little better if he didn't have to cut down to 147 for the fight.

Just some food for thought, and I'm really not trying to make any excuses for Shane, because I think Floyd would've beat him regardless. I'm simply bringing to light what was said in that 24-7 episode and trying to make some sense of it.

every fighter has trouble making weight even floyd had the same problems with the urine. this is boxing, we all should know by now how this **** goes down.

  4. I don't know. That's a good question. We will probably never know. I just thought it was an interesting topic of conversation is all. Nobody else seems to have touched on it so I thought I'd bring it up. I thought what Shane was saying to the USADA guy was very interesting.

he's been at 147 for some time now....i dont know why it would be hard to make weight now.:huh

  6. I don't agree that Floyd was having problems. Dude is 150lbs. soak and wet. Floyd just happened to be dehydrated on that particular day...which shouldn't come as a surprise really as he has been known to drink soda pop during his workouts. I don't think he has the healthiest of diets.

He had to weigh in twice against Margarito and look what happened there. It had nothing to do with it.

Excuses, excuses. Let's just admit it, Mayweather's strength shocked Shane just as it shocked most of those watching, myself include. I honestly thought it was going to be over in round 2 or shortly after when Mayweather got blasted at full pelt and looked like he was out on his feet but boy did he recoup...and how!

didn't you see his body wet when he was weighing-in, the dude had to sweat it out. i'm not sure how big floyd is now on the night, but he looks bigger than he did prior to his retirement.

making weight is not easy the way modern boxers do it, the last week is always tough one way or another, nothing to read into his comments, its the same for most fighters
