I disagree with the premise that Floyd needs Pac, I mean Floyd beat Castillo, De la Hoya, Corley, Judah, Hatton, Mosley, Corrales, Marquez I mean people say he ducked "so and so" and could have fought "such and such" but the bottom line is the man has beaten some great fighters and there's really no taking that away from him.

Floyd's...nobody thought Manny would make it this far. Everybody thought by now Mayweather would have gone further(lack of qlty opponents).

    That says it all.
I don't know why a lot of people keep on ignoring that fact.

Both need each other...and both legacies suffer. This bout is kind of a 'best of this era' bout which needs to happen before it's too late.

Mayweather needs this bout to show he is the best of this era, it will be his career defining bout and place him amongst the best the sport has seen...and to get rid of this 'ducker' image a lot people see him as.

Pacquiao needs this bout because it will cement his place among the very best if he wins. He will be the first person to beat Mayweather, (assuming no-one gets there first, and assuming he can beat Mayweather) and this will also be Pacquiao's career defining bout. He will also prove he is a clean fighter if he takes the tests...this image has been unfairly thrust upon him...but now he needs to rid himself of it and take the tests.

It depends on what else they do. If they both retire right now I would rank Floyd Mayweather Jr. over Manny Pacquiao. In terms of career pound for pound rankings. Assumeing that they don't face each other. The only other relvent boxer at 147 is Andre Breto. Both should beat him. Who ever gets Breto into the ring with them has an advantage. After that I don't see any reason for either Mayweather or Pacquiao to stay at 147. Mayweather would go to 154 and posibily 160 while Pacquiao would go to 140.
For Pacquiao his possible future could include the fallowing: Timothy Bradley, Nate Campbell and Devon Alexander. I don't think he is going to fight stable mate Amir Khan. THis would put Pacquiao at 54-3-2
For Mayweather it may be a little more intresting. My guess is that if Pacquiao still won't fight him he will look to Breto. I think both Mayweather and Breto are advised by Al Hayman so it would probbly be more likely that Mayweather gets Breto rather than Pacquiao. To judge what is a head for Mayweather at 154 & posibily 160 it is important to understand the landscape at thos weights.
In June Miguel Cotto faces Yuri Foreman. Also Next Weekend Paul Williams faces Kirmet Cintron. Cintron and Williams both have disputed postive results against middleweight champion Sergio Martainez. Williams won a very close decison that alot of people think should have gone to Martinez and Cintron got away with a draw in a fight many thought Martinez won.
If it happens after Berto the winner of Cotto/Foreman. I'm picking Foreman. Than the winner of the winner of Williams/Cintron (Williams but don't sleep on Cintron) vs Martinez (Martinez). After that there is Alferdo Angulo and Cory Spinks holds championship at 147 Mayweather would be 46-0.

the sport suffers...**** them..they need to compromise, negotiate...50/50...cut-off for blood testing 20 days out, urine all the way through and blood test after the fight. both make 40 million +; fans get to see two best fighters of the era against each other.

Pac is already a top 50 ATG, his legacy does not suffer at all. PBF's does as everyone in the boxing world knows that he ducked pac in his prime.

Pac doesn't lose any legacy points.

He's the smaller guy who has been taking on challengers where people have often put him as the underdog.

PBF has taken on fighters that have been older or smaller and been considered the clear favourite going in.

The problem for PBF is fighting Pac actually continues a dig-your-own-hole trend with Pac being clearly smaller. The JMM fight showed the size difference is significant.

What I think most people want to see is PBF stepping into the ring with someone that starts with an advantage that PBF has to overcome.

Williams and Martinez might be the answer.

Yeah, dismantling a true welter and moving back down to lower weights would add to Pac's legacy. :huh And yes, Floyd owned the division when he left, and now he's back and beat the #1 guy in the division. Who do you now think is the #1 in the division.

true but both legacy will be questioned at least. PBF for asking for olympic style test when he didn't ask his previous 40 opponents and pac's legacy will be questioned for not taking it.

    Floyd.

I think Floyd will more because Manny's main legacy is galvanizing the Pinoy popluation and bringing them something to cheer about and Floyd - Win, loose or no fight at all - Won't change that.

Floyd has already eyed off a legacy that is in his opinion, better than Robinson or Ali.

I'm sorry - But its not and he will spend his entrie life trying to justify that if he retires unbeaten.

Manny is humble and respectful - He hasn't demanded we acknowledge him as the GOAT.
