I don't expect any of you to agree with my list but that's fine, I don't agree with any of those posted so far either. :good Mosley loses his ranking in my top 10 (he was 3rd going into the Mayweather fight.) It's a strange one, I wouldn't usually drop someone previously at 3 from my entire top ranking after losing (even losing in dominant fashion) but Mosley's an exception to the rule. His victory against Margarito at the time was impressive but that was in January of last year and at 38 your abilities as a boxer deteriorate quicker. The No. 3 ranking that Mosley held almost unanimously amoung boxing fans/writers was based on a fight made over fifteen months ago. Fifteen months is a long time for a fighter at Mosley's age. It was made clear that Mosley isn't the Mosley of old, isn't even the Mosley that beat Margarito. 1. Manny Pacquiao 2. Floyd Mayweather Jr. 3. Wladmir Klitschko 4. Chad Dawson 5. Sergio Martinez (I scored Martinez as a close victor in his fight with Paul Williams) 6. Paul Williams 7. Juan Manuel Marquez 8. Vitali Klitschko 9. Timothy Bradley 10. Fernando Montiel (actually a hard one to name. There's a host of fighters one fight away from proving that this position is theirs.) I had it 115-111 Marquez. That's including two points deducted for low blows from Marquez by the referee. It was a robbery if there ever was one.
1 Manny Pacquiao 2 Floyd Mayweather Jr 3 Chad Dawson 4 Wladimir Klitschko 5 Juan Manuel Marquez 6 Lucian Bute 7 Paul Williams 8 Andre Ward 9 Sergio Martinez 10 Juan Manuel Lopez
1.PBF 2.Pac 3.Dawson 4.JMM 5.Williams 6.Mosley 7.John 8.Bradley 9.Montiel 10.Ward Just outside Adamek, Wlad, Haye, Martinez
Cross-posted from elsewhere: If I sat and thought about it for an hour or so, it might look different, but here’s off the top: 1. Mayweather (passed Pacquiao with his dominance of my #4 P4P) 2. Pacquaio 3. Dawson 4. Williams 5. Martinez 6. Caballero 7. John 8. Bradley 9. J. Marquez 10. Adamek Guys on the outside looking in (in general but not specific order): Mosley, Calderon, W. Klitschko, Haye, Wonjongkam, Donaire, Cotto, Bute, Ward, Dirrell, A. Moreno, J. Lopez, Montiel, Darchinyan, Y. Perez, R. Guerrero, N. Joyi Pretty darn weak top 10 after the first two, but a ton of depth in the 10-30 range. I realize Adamek is the outlier for me, but I think he's earned it. The reason I have Adamek ahead of Haye and Klitschko is his total body of work, as well as the fact that he’s naturally just much smaller than those two. He was one of the best at LHW. I actually think his resume at CW is slightly more impressive than Haye’s (I think Mormeck and Bell are a wash, Banks and Enzo are about a wash, and Cunningham is way the hell better than Fragomeni) and that Haye’s resume at HW is slightly better, but not by much. I can't in good conscience rank Hopkins after how he looked against Jones. Stick a gigantic fork in him. I'm willing to give Calderon another fight or two before I stick a fork in him as well. I see a lot of people ranking Montiel top 10, and I'm surprised by that. He was getting his ears boxed off by Hasegawa. He won, but if it's possible to not look good winning, Montiel did that. He also should have a loss to Valdez on his recent resume. Top 25, sure, but not top 10 to me. Funny how me and Pimp C always seem to have similar lists.
Thats a decent list. What I fail to understand is how guys like Mosely (who just lost, hadn't fought for a year before that), and Hopkins (RJJ!?) make it ahead of the Klitschko brothers who've been taking all comers at heavyweight and putting them to sleep, one after the other.
1-Pacquiao-wins over much larger DLH, destroyed Hatton (at Hatton's weight) and comfortably beat both Cotto and Clottey, good welter's. 2-Mayweather-put on boxing masterclases against Mosley (career best at higher weights) and Marquez, also inflicted first defeat on Hatton. 3-JM Marquez-went 12 with Mayweather 2 weights above his natural best, and shattered Diaz and Casamayor. 4-Williams-beat middleweight champ Martinez, and solid vets Wright and Philips, along with good work at welter (Quintana, Margarito). 5-Dawson-beat Tarver x2, Johnson x2(underrated wins considering Johnson's recent win) and Adamek. 6-Mosley-lost comfortably to Mayweather, still too early to decide if he is totally shot or capable of performing as well at welter as he did when destroying Margarito. 7-Hopkins-beat Jones jr., and also destroyed Pavlik's unbeaten record as the underdog. Again, too early to judge if he has lost the skills that gave him his p4p ranking. 8-Calderon-very small even for his weight, and lacks knockout power, but still holds a good wins over Mayol and Cazares and has excellent skills. 9-W. Klitschko-has consistently blasted out good contenders (Chambers, Chagaev, Ibragimov). His enormous size counts against him. 10-Adamek-was cruiser king, beating Bell and closest challenger Cunningham, before stepping up to heavyweight and emerging victorious from fight with dangerous Arreola.
Well Montiel is rated in the top 10 for me for the same reason's you have Adamek. Whole body of work; 3 division champ, good resume, Castillo and Hazegawa are great names to have on your resume. Castillo was #1 in his division when Montiel KHTFO and so was Hazegawa. Valdez should not be a loss so GTFOH with that ****. Montiel was actually spanking him before he was cut so you're wrong there. Hazegawa was not ouboxing him either, that is just a myth. It was only 3 rounds yet you act like he was being outboxed for like 10 rounds...it was a very competitive fight up to the KO. Want a good example of someone getting his ears boxed? Watch Dawson-Adamek.... So a 3 division champ, the smaller guy when taking out the #1 guy in his division in the champs backyard, great skills and power....great resume....he deserves the spot.
I now have Mayweather ahead of Pacquiao but for the rest I have trouble putting them in order of importance so I'll just lay the names out there : 1-Mayweather 2-Pacquiao 3-Dawson 4-Williams 5-Bradley 6-Montiel 7-W. Klitschko 8-Ward 9-Donaire 10-Bute
my word some people in this thread rate Dawson very highly considering he still has a lot to show us yet.
1. Pac 2. Floyd 3. Wlad 4. Bradley 5. Montiel 6. Williams 7. Martinez 8. Donaire 9. Marquez 10. Vitali
