Floyd is and always was an immense talent. Ive always admired and appreciated his skills in the ring. The best defensive fighter in the world today and proved saturday night he can adapt and put on an entertaining show. He was in trouble in the second round but did exceptionally well to overcome it and take control of the fight later on.

As much as i love floyd he does deserve some criticism for his choice of opponents. Hecouldve fought cotto, margerito, mosely 5 yrs ago and now pac. But nevertheless he should be recognised as the best in the world, along with pac and as a boxing fan cannot wait for the two (if it happens) to get in the ring and see who is p4p best atm.

props to floyd he is one amazing talent, maybe an arsehole but he is a boxing genius

He moved up in my alltime ratings. But the hype (saying he's proved himself a greater fighter than Pac; now top of the P4P etc etc) is getting too much.

    I'm considering taking a sabbatical.

Nah, I've never not respected the mans abilities ... they are clear to see for anyone but I will still be hoping, everytime I watch him fight, that he gets his head twisted off.

He's as we say up here "a ****ing ArseHOLE" but a highly skilled arsehole all the same.

i always appreciated his skills, but never been blown away by floys. And although his performance was not astonishing by any stretch of the imagination, what he did do was completely tame a dangerous opponent, and recover from a thunderous attack in the second. Granted ssm was blowing quite a bit from the 4th onwards, but floyds come forward attitude was the major difference in this fight, and he won me over a little bit.
And i am quite happy to say i thought ssm would win the fight, by punching in volume and overwhelming floyd. How wrong was i!!

but i am not arsed, as i was converted into being a believer and happy i watched a modern great in action

Did I mention Williams? Williams is so inaccurate with his punches, I'd be inclined to agree.

You offer a lot of revised perspectives on the fighters mentioned. If you really think Baldomir's better than Margarito, you're just dreaming. There's a reason Margarito had been in the rankings for years until he got caught nearly cheating. For the record, there's no evidence that he cheated prior to Mosley, whatever suspicions people have.

I'm not going to refute what you said, because my points still stand: while the best in the division were available, Floyd didn't fight them. That's a simple fact.

Floyd did NOT get more than $8m for fighting Baldomir. The PPV numbers were shocking and they'd already papered the venue desperate to fill the seats. Only Floyd says that which, live on radio, was completely demolished. He just didn't want to fight Margarito. It's that simple.

Cotto would have been a good fight. Shame it never happened while he was at his peak.

Agreed - and it was a natural match to make post Cotto-Mosley.

In fairness to Mayweather, while it didn't get made, Arum wasn't exactly pushing for it. And Mayweather probably felt that Cotto should have been chasing him. But that makes Floyd's avoidance of Margarito even worse.

What would have made it interesting is that Cotto would be the most versatile opponent Floyd has faced for a long time. He's not averse to going on the retreat, trying to draw opponents in, can use the jab etc Mayweather's slow pace in the early part of the fight would suit him down to the ground as well.

I think Mayweather begins walking him down though and has him in huge trouble late on. Up until that point though, it would be a high class chess match. Quite boring for the casual fan I think.

The Mosley fight was probably the first time I've been able to just sit back and appreciate Mayweather without being blinded by a desire to see him KTFO.

a boxer is the last to know when his time is up
and mosley hopefully found out the other night
well done to mayweather though - not seen him take the
centre of the ring for along time- but he is to your taste or
not and i have never liked trash talking so he is not my taste

Hopefuly PBF has some new fans he deservs them. i doubt pac fans have been won over , some critics will have been won over or at least show some respect but i think he will have a lot more casual fans and much more appriciation from experts who alredy respected his defencive games. As we know though "haters be hatin"

A lot of people are saying he needs to beat Williams hence the reference to him. Nobody avoided the cheating Margarito who is underskilled to put it mildly. It is an indictment of Miguel Cotto (a fighter I love) that he allowed himself to be defeated by a guy he is 10 times more talented than loaded gloves or not.

Floyd did get more than $8Million for Baldomir. The promotion may have lost some money but that is another matter. Frankly Baldomir's WBC belt and linear title meant more than Mrgarito WBO trinket.

It's debatable he got more than 8mil for Baldomir but, either way, he was certainly wary of Margarito back then. A lot of people were.

I just think he's very good.

I used to want to see him get beat, but... couldn't care either way now, just think he's a joy to watch (even when he spends fights back peddling).

To be fair he didn't backpedal much against Shane, Shane did as much if not more.
