Mosley has been relatively average since the first De La Hoya fight. He's been Jittery Johnny from that point on. I don't think he even deserves the 'Sugar' tag.
Dont we all knew that already? Mosley is way past his best.. That being said, I still give credit to Mayweather just for the reason of Mosley still poses some threat(like what you saw on the second round)
Well around that time (I thought De La beat him in the rematch). I've said it a few times, I always found him way more boring to watch than Mayweather. The pawing jab routine used to get on my tits, as did the way his hooks got smothered alot of time and then he would hold. Great guy, but overrated as a boxer and entertainer. Edit: Just checked Boxrec: your 100% right. After the first Forrest fight. Got dates mixed up.
Don't get me wrong. I already thought a lot of Floyd before the fight and still do. I give him credit for taking the fight because he didn't know just how old Mosley was going to be in that ring and probably a good part of making Floyd look as finished as he did was Mayweather's doing and Mosley could probably be a lot more competitive with most welterweights that aren't Floyd. At the same time I just can't say Mosley wasn't past it in that fight. It was the early tiredness among other things that was nothing to do with Floyd. I think Mayweather will get more credit for this victory than he deserves and that's not supposed to be a criticism of Mayweather. He just didn't beat a top 10 pound for pounder or a fighter close to his prime. We'll see how good Mosley is in his next fight (I'm hoping Berto or Clottey) though I still believe he can be competitive with anyone in the division that isn't Mayweather and Pacquiao and then we'll know the truth assuming he doesn't retire. Mayweather also deserves a lot of credit for recovering from the second round and coming back the way he did in the next round and onwards.
This is not the first time Mosley has looked winded and discouraged when he can't throw and land consistently. If Mosley fought Margo again you would see the beast of Mosley come back, give a little credit to Mayweather.
That is because he knew his biggest chance against Mayweather would be to hit him with everything he had and hopefully he would fall... When that didn't happen, he knew it was over.
Mosley has been breathing out of his mouth for years. Mayweather's style made Mosley look worse than he actually was, and I will stand by that. Mosley is my second favorite fighter all time by the way, only behind Jones Jr.
For 7 million dollars, Mosley would even declare he is "Jesus Christ" if Mayweather requires it! Mosley is a desperate man, to the point of even asking Pac to fight him at 140.
I know he is certainly not prime, he is nowhere near as shot as a Jones Jr though, and there are some intriguing fights I still think he has a chance at. He proved he could still end someones night with a punch. I just want to stand by my earlier statements that Mayweather deserves credit, he also had a game plan to come forward and push the stronger Mosley back. I would certainly not be against him retiring, but Mayweather had balls to fight him, almost got knocked out, but his style prevailed.
Of course Shane was past his prime...he was past his prime when he destroyed Marg. I think MENTALLY Shane collapse. It wasn't his physical faculties that diminished.....I think he didn't have the confidence going into the fight and it was only confirmed when he heard the first bell and the speed and strategy Floyd implemented suprised him. After the 2nd round where he shook Floyd Shane just looked lost....I think he was looking to chase Floyd and for Floyd to be back pedaling like most expected. Floyd stood there toe to toe and with his speed and defense Shane confidence deminished as the fight wore on. At this point I think Floyd and manny are too much for this version of Shane. I just think the win was a great one for Floyd no matter what Shane looked like. I attribute the way shane looked with what Floyd brought to the fight!
