Agree totally. Mayweather bores the **** out of me at times. Whitaker, despite his antics, engaged me with the ways he utilized his talent.

If you dont enjoy what Mayweather does in the ring, you dont enjoy the science of this sport IMO.

 I love this. The plebs that dislike Mayweather are just not intelligent enough to appreciate the special artistry behind the following: run run run run run hold run run run run hold run run run LEAD RIGHT HAND run run run hold run run run hold run run run hold run run run run run hold end round. Next round, repeat.

I'm not saying that's what Mayweather does all the time. In fact, he does it less than e.g. Monzon who actually gets his dick sucked constantly for being really crafty and clever. But Mayweather does do it some of the time, and when it's completely unnecessary - and that's when those that complain get unfairly lambasted for unrefined taste and "not appreciating fine boxing". Boxing science is about a lot of things. Cynical stalling of the pace and deliberately avoiding exchanges at every turn are not among them.

I knew some would have the response of "not appreciating fine boxing" but after participating and following the sport for 25 years, I just don't give a **** what most people think. Not that I am the greatest authority on the fistic arts but I know enough, spend enough time researching and watching to not have an inferiority complex. I respect the opinions of others but don't really think there are any revelations I am missing.

That said, I find Mayweather a bit contrived and very much safety first. A great talent who was groomed from the crib, for sure. But the true measure of a fighter's spirit can not be hidden in the ring (and often not even in the negotiations leading to fight night)... What I see of Mayweather in this regard I find lacking.

Obviously Mayweathers biggest strength is his defensive skills but he has proven on numerous occassions that he is the most complete fighter in the game also... very good jab, great feet, throws every punch in the book technically correct & with amazing accuracy, can adapt to different styles as well as mid fight & never loses his cool.

Just compare his performances in his last 3 or 4 fights & you`ll see how comfortable & effective he is using different styles vs certain opponents.
I dont find him boring in the ring at all, his boxing skill is phenomenal & he shows it more often than not, every fighter has bad fights, I feel FMJ gets a raw deal when his name always gets brought up in discussions about boring fighters.... but as said above, its a personal preference.

Mayweather is quality, his performances are great to watch for me, but hey, it's in the eye of the beholder. Monzon is a different animal, and i enjoy that too.

I appreciate more than enjoy Monzons fights TBH.

Watching Floyd on form is like watching Brazil play football...
    Likewise with Monzon & Italy...
Both elite greatness but one more enjoyable than the other.

You mean Oscar De La Hoya right? Oscar is the best pure boxer we have seen in the last 15 years. Oscar does everything by the book. I like oscar in his prime over floyd too.

You've been calling Oscar the best pure boxer of the last fifteen years for as long as i can remember and it never gets more believable. In fact, it used to be twenty years i'm sure.

You really think Oscar has better boxing skills than Floyd ?
    I have to disagree.

On the prime v prime thing, you could be right but it would be the size more than the skill IMHO that would (could ?) do it & it would depend on the weight they fought at also.

In their actual fight, Oscar had the size but it was Floyd`s skill (& youth to be fair) that overcame any advantage Oscar had.... the better defense & clean punching of Mayweather were the difference in the fight & to me, defense & clean punching are 2 of the main things when annalysing the better `boxer.`

When did I start agreeing with everything you say?

I also take a prime Oscar over Floyd. And I still say Castillo beat him in their first fight... and the punch stats back up this contention emphatically.

Whitaker imo would beat Mayweather, but Mayweather was a far superior as far as pure boxing is concerned.
