In the heavyweight division, Jackson, Jeannette, Langford, McVea, and Wills immediately spring to my mind.

To me, if you won the colored HW title, no one can say you were only a contender.

I'm still waiting for Janitor to get back to me on the lhw thread, but i think Jeff Clark would fit in there.

Bantamweight - Eijiro Murata (drew both Chandler and Pintor in title fights as well as 2 stoppages at the hands of Chandler)

126/130 - Ruben Castillo (title shots vs Sal Sanchez, Arguello, JC Chavez!!! Also against Laporte, the one I thought he should've been able to beat)

175 - Jerry "The Bull" Martin - Title shots vs Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, Saad Muhammad, Qawi. Definitely a notch below these guys, but beat James Scott in Rahway, so definitely a good fighter.

Bantamweight - Memphis Pal Moore: defeated 10 world champions, 7 HOFers... stopped only once (broken arm!) in 256 fights.

    Lightweight - Packey McFarland

    Featherweight - Jim Driscoll

    Wow that's legendary.

On Driscoll, he did claim the title though didn't he?

Yes... he won something called the "British world featherweight title", but I don't think anyone regards this as a real (what is "real" these days?) title. He's not on BoxRec's list of world champions.
