We all know that Shogun Rua reached about 227lbs etc when he fought in Pride, so it's likely that he is rehydrating to close to that amount even when he weighs in at 205. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I feel as if Shogun just looks a lot bigger, more muscled, and heavier than Lyoto does when they are in the Octagon. I still think Lyoto Machida is a great fighter and can have an amazing MMA career in the time he has left, but do you think he could maybe become a middleweight, or is he too big for that? As I said, to me the Dragon looked noticeably smaller than Shogun did. Anyway, just want to reiterate that I think Lyoto Machida is still a great fighter. He got caught by a big shot from a sensational striker tonight, but that can happen to anyone and everyone. I'm still a Machida fan and look forward to him getting back to winning ways. :good
Machida is bigger than Shogun imo. Shogun began his career at 176 lbs and was a fat mess when he fought Coleman at 220+. That said, I'd imagine they could both make 185 but when they're currently the 2 top ranked 205'ers in the world, why bother?
There's no point in him going down to 185 when his capable of beating a lot of fighters at 205. He loss to one of the best MMA fighter in the world. I think many people has forgotten how great shogun was cuz he struggled early coming from pride. Shogun was a beast in pride beating fighters like rampage-overeem-arona-randleman,noguiera etc. This guy is no joke.
They look around the same size to be its just Machida isnt all that cut up. I honestly expect him to just roll over most of the 205 pound divison aside from Shogun. Shogun was the one guy out there that could exploit Machida's few weaknesses. Machida makes that lunge if you notice he backs up, backs up then he lunges forward well Shogun timed it perfectly and hes also able to catch Machida moving backwards with kicks and punches which is rare. Machida is also heavy on that lead leg and Shogun lands alot of inside leg kicks agian thats something most cant do vs Machida. Shogun is a guy who can fight great technically and fight in an agressive manor also. Shogun is a great thinker but he does it with a consistent violence to it. That guy isnt losing anytime soon unless he gets injured.
Shogun looks like he might have put on alittle muscle after the 2nd Coleman fight. I cant imagine he could make it down to 185 at this point in his career.
The guy is a great fighter who should come back. Boo hoo, he has one loss. He got countered big cos his balance was poor and his head was up. Plus he got really unlucky that Shogun literally fell onto the mount.
He should only go to 185 if he's going to fight Anderson Silva... since that isn't going to happen, he should stay at the weight he's comfortable at. You don't just jump to another weight, simply because there's a really great fighter standing between you and the belt. Machida just has to go back to the drawing board and work on what might be able to offset Shogun's style.
haha exactly 16-1 he isn't about to go running away this isn't boxing. Machida will go back home and try to work on a different game plan to fight Shogun again in the future. I don't see anyone else in the division giving him much of a problem so give him another win or two and he'll be back.
Actually I didn't se any leg kicks in this fight just knees to the thighs while against the cage machida just failed to move to his right
This.Machida beat the crap out of a bunch of people and Shogun just happened to knock him off his high horse. He can bounce back and probably get a rubber match.
i agree 100 percent with you,its so funny how people can say lyoto is done he need to change weight classes.....ect,damn he just lost his 1st fight and people think he is **** now:huh lyoto will be back trust me he is a great fighter and shogun was just the better man that night and maybe the better man for a while to come
New to the forum not new to MMA at all, but Machida should stay at 205, he's the only man to defend that belt since 2007 I believe. He's good enough to win it again
