High Def Kermit Jump Vid - what do you see?

You are very right. If you could have seen some of his sparring... that's where he would sometimes shine the brightest. For 24 rounds he boxed Bernard Hopkins to a stand still. With 4 pro fights he went to camp with Gatti when Gatti was preparing for Oscar. he beat the **** out of Gatti. So much so that they stopped using him. At 7-0 he was putting it on Andrew Lewis. There were times when he was amazing. The a day later he would quit against some bum, and cry outside the ring.

 

I totally disagree about the Martinez knockdown. Sergio spun out and shot that left straight through Kermit's jaw. Not many people would have taken that shot.

Just an opinion but it seems like a lot of your opinion of his career after you is colored by your experience. But hey, I can understand that.

 

You have any tape of that Hopkins session? I've heard from a few people about it.

Late (and probably irrelevant now) response, but here we go:
Back when Cintron was heavily hyped here, I stopped lurking (haven't changed my avatar since) and was the lonely voice of hate in the wilderness. My point was about Kermit being able to defend himself on ESB; I'd be shocked if Cintron didn't have at least three alt accounts back then and isn't now getting misty-eyed at the "Cintron was Robbededer!!1one!" threads.

My concern about the the questions' tone was that, at first glance, it came across as a "I knew Manny Steward. Manny was a friend of mine, and you, sir..." I probably couldn't have found much wiggle room to make the questions less antagonistic... but, then again, you're one hell of a better writer than I am.

As for those with the double standard that no one but you is allowed to dog a fighter... it's a double standard, and this man's more than earned the right to both vent and educate us.

If you want to see someone actually be unprofessional and dog their own fighter, check out the quotes that Jack Loew gives to the local papers in Youngstown. If you can't find them, I'll gladly do a lmgtfy.com for you.

From what you know of Cintron, personally, how did you view (more detail the better) what happened last nite?

oh and Gabe, why dont you get ol Joe here onto the Next Round next? you should bring this discussion to a higher medium. its been very very interesting.

Rereading my post, I gave myself the mental image of being a Milk & Cheese character.

Granted, I'm relying on the magic of television, but the Martinez KO seemed a good 80% mental to me. The shimmy to the rope was pretty bizarre (straight out of Super Punch-Out) but Cintron took a look behind him before laying back on the rope. I believe he was hurt badly, but mostly looking for both a way out of adversity and for Mommy to scold mean ol' Martinez.

 

Conditioner seems to have a love hate relationship going with Cintron (appreciates his talents but hates his work ethic), and since Kermit has trashed the people that taught him the craft and brought him up from obscurity (which was impressive considering how late he started), I have no qualms with this guy trashing him on the forums. Its called karma and I enjoy the details.

its very rare to get a chance to speak to a real boxing insider, not a wannabe journalist, or a Elie Sechback(god help us) but a real deal boxing professional. gotta say its interesting to hear everything.

 

He isn't the only one! Most boxers don't have friends they have people that are useful to them.Sad but true.

I think it is obvious that Kermit drastically exaggerated that fall. I think it was obvious that he jumped off his left foot. I think he was up 3-1 in that fight. He landed the more telling blows, and was dictating the pace of the fight. I was surprised Williams started so slowly. I saw his manager/lawyer josh Dubin right there, and i would be confident in betting that Dubin told him to stay down believing eitheer they would get a no contest, or that Kermit was up. What that means is easy payday, and grounds for a rematch which would in turn reward Kermit with another big payday.
