I think it was a good choice to leave 160lbs, I just didn't see him beating Martinez at that weight and it would've been another struggle, lose-lose situation. Kelly can have a frest start at 168, however, trainer Jack Loew doesn't rule out light heavyweight as a possibility, which is an interesting quote. Pavlik weighed 180lbs on Monday.

"It’d be idiotic to try to stay at 160 and be healthy making it. I was shocked [by his Monday weight] and he was shocked, but he just looks big and thick again. He’s not fat and it’s all good weight. But he’s a solid 178 and he doesn’t want to battle that problem again.

"I have no idea where we’re going, I really don’t. It could be super middleweight or it could be light heavyweight. A lot of the super middleweight fighters are tied up right now, so what’s attractive at that weight?"

Of course there are several possibilities at 168 despite most of the best are fighting in Super Six (of which Kelly said "let them beat each other up, let them ruin their career for peanuts"), but there's IBF champ Lucian Bute who sparked out Miranda on the Martinez-Pavlik undercard, WBO-champ Robert Stieglitz who seems like an ideal opponent (maybe not HBO caliber, but it would be a good fight), and other names such as Librado Andrade or Sakio Bika, I'd watch all of those fights.

At the moment, 175 is also pretty busy: Dawson's fighting Pascal, Cloud takes on Johnson, Shumenov has a couple of mandatories and God know if Brahmer will be in or out of jail in the upcoming months. There's (former) lineal champ Erdei, God forbid Roy Jones, and who the hell knows, if Calzaghe comes back, it could very well happen.

First things first however, and I have great respect for Jack Loew for taking Kelly to the Undisputed Middleweight Crown, but it's time to get a more experienced and skilled pro trainer such as Manny Steward or an overlooked teacher, Jeff Mayweather who did wonders with fellow tall volume puncher Caballero. At first there are adjustments Pavlik needs to work on such as better foot placement and cutting down the ring effectively, but there are new things he needs to add to the already working things, such as improvement on overall movement and a much more varied, better timed jab. Also, it would be great if someone would make sure Kelly stays healthy in between fights, or better, stay in the gym more often, and set camp far away from home, it's all better for the focus. Also, add a professional conditioning coach and a nutritionist to keep proper weight and a goddamn cutman who can work on cuts. My vote for head trainer would be Jeff Mayweather and IMO Arum can arrange the rest.

Kelly Pavlik's career is far from being over, he only put behind one part (160) and now starts a new story. He's definitely got a lot of time to make his fans proud once more, he just has to be smart and hungry and the results will come!

Right now, he will get torn to shreds at 168, and the guys at 175 will be too strong.

He needs a new trainer and a new approach if he is to get to world level again.

I have the horrible feeling that Pavlik will fight Roy Jones. :-(

Jones would beat him I reckon, even though he has a Glass Jaw. He still has hand speed and would feast on a static target like Pavlik.

I actually think Pavlik could be more competitive at 175 than at 168 imho....Dawson though would carve his ass up...

I think the loss to Hopkins did a lot of damage to Pavliks mental strenght..It was a very bad beating he took in that fight!
Can he come back as strong as before?? I seriosly doubt it... Especially after another loss,to Martinez..It´s not just that he lost, but more the WAY he have lost... Hopkins whopped him..And Martinez way to outsmart him,and playing around in "RRJ style" must do something to pavlik mentally.I think his confidence as a fighter was damaged after the Hopkins fight, and his way back will truly be difficult.
Its a wise move to move up in weight. But i think LHW is where he´s got the biggest chance to make some noice...
I sure hope he can come back strong in LHW..He is a good fighter, and his fights with JT and Miranda was great to watch..

The higher the weight the better for Kelly. You will see him at heavy some day, just wait and see.

I agree with this. 168 is pretty stacked & while 175 is decent, it's not quite as good as 168 so Pavlik would have a better chance of making waves up there.

175 is too far, I still think he could carve out a bit of room for himself at 168. Bute would be a problem for him because of the styles, but he could take a couple of fights there before going for that. Could start off with Bika or Andrade. A couple of guys will be leaving the Super 6 soon as well. I dont think anybody would crucify him for taking a few fights to adjust to the new weight before tackling Bute.

Pavlik was never undiputed. Linear but not undisputed.

cutting weight is overrated boxers should fight max 15pounds below their walking around weight it's more healthy for them plus less weight drained means more power more speed better chin and better legs pavlik should fight at light heavyweight as i think he will struggle at super middleweight as well
