Amir Khan Is Great... And Paulie is a tough SOB (But done on a World Class Level)

    Amir Khan is great. He didn't prove everything, but he proved he has speed, could use distance, and has solid defense. Honestly... I was very impressed with his jab. I was impressed with his defense too.

    Paulie... Paulie is past his physical prime. And I know, I never said it many times but I've been watching film on both of these guys. I didn't want to go "Yeah Paulie wins, but he's past it." With Paulie, though. His legs just aren't at the best near the Cotto fight. His speed, legs, and upper-body movement slowed down just a little.

    I'm sad and a little dissapointed in some aspects. Khan made it tough but Paulie didn't move laterally enough, he wasn't starting first enough. Credit goes to Khan though... he proved he's pretty damn good. I'll always be a fan of Paulie. And I'm not making excuses as I think it was pretty obvious I was just conveying my emotions. I'm going to always try rooting for Paulie.

    And all the haters need to recognize that he's one of the toughest fighters in the game. There is zero quit in him. Paulie was fighting more like the man with power at times. It was like he was out of his element but tried to do whatever he could to win. All that Tranny talk from the haters and pinoys. I really don't get it sometimes... maybe you guys have an experience, or maybe Paulie reminds you of your favorite tranny porn-star. I don't know, I'm not judging that. I never knew a tranny that tough... let alone most boxers. He has guts and no quit. Khan showed his skills and ability in full mode.

    And that's all I got to say. You Brits got a great talent and a good fighter. He has chin-questions to still answers. The match-making was smart, and he has a lot to prove. But he's solid.

    Spot on mate. Khan showed some great skill in that fight, really nice jab and settled into the occasion well. The improvement under Roach has been really good. Sad to say I also agree with the Paulie comments, as much as I like him I think it's time to consider calling it a day, I don't want to see him fighting past his prime which I think he could be or at a lower level against lesser opponents

    He'll come around.

    While Khan impressed me, did Paulie's toughness impress you? You have to admit the guy has guts. I know it's not a tough-man contest. Still admirable.

    And just to note... NO, Paulie even at his best isn't going to beat Khan. I still think Paulie hasn't had the luckiest of careers though. He got cut first round against Cotto, dropped in second round. Fought a close war with Cotto. Had McGirt in his physical prime and stood in the pocket too much.

    You underestimate the toughness of the tranny population, Pete. But, really Paulie was very cool after the fight and honest to a fault, as usual. He seems like a good guy.

    He can still fight, but not at a world class title stage. I'll still root for him though. It's funny about his comments on Khan because in a lot of ways it's true (How he sort of reminded him of himself at a younger age).

    Where is Boom Boom to give me my new avatar. Let's see what he has in mind.

    I'll always root for him (even if he was fighting against me!) but I don't think he needs to carry on. Had a good career for someone with his kind of hand trouble & who started late, made his money & had some big, big fights. He'd make a pretty good addition to TV :p

    Khan used his jab very well, and he was fast enough to land his right. Also, did a good job on spacing. Never questioned Paulie's toughness though, but glad that he recognized that it was a good stoppage. Class act at the end also (from both sides.) Now, wassup with calling out a pinoy like me though :lol:.

    Khan looked good but this fight never provided him the opportunity to answer his biggest question, his chin. Fighting Maidana can certainly do that.

    Good post Pete. I was hoping Paulie could show up better and pull off the upset, but I was expecting Khan to win it. I didn't expect it to be as one-sided as it was, though.

    Both guys have been gaining respect from me as I've been following their careers, and that's continued through tonight. I thought both gave excellent, classy post-fight interviews and Paulie's toughness deserves recognition.

    I've also thought for awhile now that Paulie's got a bright future in commentary. He really knows his stuff, is opinionated, and does a great job conveying that in interviews.

    Paulie deserves respect for his courage. Took a lot of clean shots there and kept coming back for more.

    Clinical performance by Khan. Much more mature and composed than his earlier fights.

    What surprised me about Malignaggi was that he didn't seem to make much of an effort to defend himself. Pretty much left himself open throughout the fight.

    I am disappointed with Paulie's ability to adapt, the man is as tough as nails but he needs to get a better trainer or someone that will beat it into his head to put up both hands when he is getting caught.

    But good win for Khan, now I want to see him against Alexander.
