Think he takes anyone in that division domestically apart from Ricky Burns. get him the vacant Commonwealth or Skykes for the British. then take on guys like Lawton, Foster Jnr, Crolla, Femhiltolla, Morris, Johanesson in 2011 before moving to European level. Cannot see any of them causing him problems, he looks exceptional has every shot
I gave the Walsh's collectively abit of stick the other week but I have to admit I was quite impressed with Liam last night. I think Liam is definately the star out of the trio. Anyone hear how Michael and Ryan got on last night?
His opposition has been shite. Needs some more decent step up fights to really make technical improvements before going up to 12 rounds because once he goes makes the jump there will be less chance to concentrate on those areas rather then fitness, especially seeing as he hasn't been streteched at the shorter distances. Perfect opponent right now Felix Lora over 8, the guy is 12-6-4 but has mixed in with decent opposition just took the undefeated record of a 15-0 Polish Super Featherweight and has a draw against Martin Kristjansen as well as going the distance with Marcel Meyerdiercks.
Bingo. Way too early to judge even though he does look decent....IMO Sykes and Burns would beat him soundly at the moment (not sure that Walsh could get down to SFW)
The one thing I would say is that he's knocking opponents over that are seldom knocked over - it's a good sign. He's been a pro nearly 2 1/2 years though and only 8 fights - plus it's not exactly been a step up in class each time, after beating Thorpe and Baguley there's no need to get in with Sid Razak :-( They need to be brought along much quicker.
Yeah I think the promising thing is the guys he's knocking out. That doesn't immediately mark him outstanding of course, but its a very good start to be able to stop experienced, durable, defensive minded foes where more proven and rated fighters havn't. Baguely and Riyaz had never been stopped and Razzak just a couple of times.
:good If you compare the best British fighters of, say the past 20 years, most of them were blasting out low-mid level journeymen out inside a couple of rounds. Hatton, Calzaghe, Haye, Khan, Froch etc were seldom taken a full 6 or 8 by anyone other than a renouned hard case. When the prospects start struggling like hell to get rid of these guys and losing rounds (Tony Jeffries being a good example in his last fight) you can start bracketing them as to where their level is.
:deal So to sum up who the **** nows how good he is his oppo hasn't improved since day 1 and we don't see enough of him to know if he is improving which he probably isn't with this kind of opposition.
you can still see if someone is good even if there in with crap. every shot he throws is textbook, so accurate and they look hurtful. extremely quick. he looks in very good shape and his footwork looks good.
Oh yeah don't get me wrong I was impressed with him yesterday Ibrar isn't a survival mode or fall straight on the back type journeymen and I was impressed with him against Razak as well. Just wish he was out more often and against more challenging opponents last night was the closest he has gotten to a step up sad really and we probably won't see him for 3/4 months now.
The worst thing that they can do with Walsh is rush him, he needs to be brought on nice and steady...:yep Burns is heading down a different path and Sykes might be a fight later down the line but not right now...:yep
ricky and i shared the changing room with the walsh brothers amongst others and both the boys boxing last night looked in very good condition a credit to there coach.
