Mitchell talked the talk, but he (Unfortunately) couldn't walk the walk

Agree, the lads only 25 for gods sake! James De Gale is only 1 year younger than him! Fair enough he's had 30 odd fights but he still has plenty of time to come back and improve. Kev has never been in a ring with anyone like Katsidis. After his long unbeaten run I think Kev thought he was better than he is, maybe this loss could be the making of him as we've seen with Khan.

 

Hang on a minute, Katsidis is hardly on his way out. He actually showed to me that he is capable of competing at the very top.

This was always going to be a massive step up for Mitchell (which I admittedly thought he would manage), but because our fighters are so hyped up, the TV broadcasters make a defeat so much worse.

Had Sky's pundits realistically said that this was a 50-50 fight, a loss for Mitchell wouldn't have been as devastating as it is.

 

What was Skys take on it pre-fight Akers? I didn't sit down to watch it properly until just before the main event introductions.

 

they were saying how mitchell will become the next hatton and talking about a possible mitchell vs marquez match up.

And then we sit around wondering why fighters and promoters don't take risks.

 

The days of protecting a fighter are coming to an end, so losing this fight isn't as devastating as it might have been 8-10 years ago.

Last night Luis Garcia fought Alexander Sipos on the Andy Lee undercard in only his 6th fight. That is taking a risk and that is where we are going inthe sport.

Amir Khan has been with golden boy a short while. Sure Salita was mandatory but they threw him in with Paulie. As feather fisted as he is, he's still world ranked.

Chisora jumping in with Danny WIlliams isn't protecting him. here are a long list of others in recent times and perhaps Mitchell is the last of the protected 0 fighters.

I am not talking about throwing the likes of Liam Walsh in against John Murray or anything but I mean testing a fighter earlier.

I just mean its not that bad. Injury aside, Mitchell has been held back. Moving up a level and being 'found out' is not the end of the world.

Did anyone not have the fight 20-18 or 19-19 after the first two? Mitchell made a mistake. A costly one, but he'll learn.

If that happened 10-12 fights ago, there would still be hope/expectation, but the belief he would come back from that. Perhaps Mitchell is at the same stage of his development because so many of those unbeaten fights were largely meaningless.
