I think Moorers chin is a little better than Wlads, but I must admit its a pretty close comparison. I understand Wlads been never knocked out cold, but the ref usually stops the fight before theres a chance for that to happen.
I'd say with Manny still as his trainer he would have been just fine. Like another poster said, his chin is much better than Lewis' and his power is pretty good. So I think he would have done just fine.
DEFINETLY NOT......RUDDOCK KNOCKS HIM OUT.....I MEAN THE RUDDOCK B4 TYSON..........HOLYFIELD CHIN/COUNTERPUNCHING.........RIDDICK BOWE WOULD EAT WLAD......**** LENNOX LEWIS WOULD REALLY FUK WLAD UP..................I DONT CARE WHAT 2SMART 4 U SAYS....TYSON WOULD END THINGS REAL EARLY AGAINST WLAD,,,,.....TIM WITHERSPOON WOULD HAVE A REAL CHANCE WITH THAT BIG OVERHAND RIGHT........RAY MERCER WOULD BEAT WLAD...........TOMMY MORRISON........WELL IT WOULD BE A PICK EM FIGHT............WLADS LUCKY HES FIGHTING GUYS LIKE THE BOXING BANKER/41 YR OLD RAY MERCER........AND JAMEEL MCLINE.......NEED I SAY MORE:smoke:smoke:smoke:smoke:smoke:smoke:smoke:smoke:smoke:smoke
I'd bet my life that had WALDO taken the 2 punches Lewis took to lose fights he'd have been clean KO'd. This 'WALDO has never been knocked out, only TKO'd' argument is weak as hell when you consider who he lost to. As for would the brothers be competitive in the 90's, I think they probably would, they'd probably both win belts at some point, but they wouldn't have them for long.
My point exactley and now the same guys who said that then call him great and dismiss the HW's of today ... IMO Wlad and Lewis are very very similiar.
Yeah, like Lewis was down the 12 times that Wlad has been! Not. Yeah, like Lewis has been stopped 3 times like Wlad, NOT. Basically the question was, could Wlad have been successful in the 90`s. If you look at his career, when he came up he was flawed and couldnt handle pressure. Only now at a late peioid of his career has he trained with Steward and refined his style. The Wlad that existed for his first 30 fights or so would of been vulnrable to being destroyed as he was by Sanders but even worse if he fought any of the 90`s big names and it would have happened earlier in his career and i doubt he would ever of come back to compete at that level again amongst that competition. Bearing in mind he wouldnt be trained by Steward either, Steward would of been training Lewis if Wlad was fighting in the 90`s so wlad would never get to be as refined as he seems today.
It is way too hard to argue "what would have happened" there weren't all that many 6'6" fighters with a power house jab in the 90's. The closest thing you can compare Wlad to is Lewis. Lewis did alright. I'm known as a Holyfield hater on another board and a Wlad fanboy, but in reality that is not true. I rooted for the guy just like everyone else .. but realistically speaking he got hit a ton. The words "warrior" and "heart" only get thrown around about fighters who get hit and keep coming. I think a prime Holyfield and Wlad split 4 fights. Maybe even Wlad loses 3 out of 4 .... The chin argument that haters bring up about Wlad is weak. Corey Sanders hits like a freaking mule and that is the only time Wlad has ever been in trouble because of a punch. You can say he had no endurance prior to Manny .. you can say he had zero confidence after the Sanders fight ... all true. Peter shoved him down twice and hit him in the back of the head the third time. If anything he propelled Wlad into the beast he is today. Wlad has all the confidence in the world now. Wlad would have done no better or worse than Lewis did in the 90's. Pre-Douglas Tyson struggled with fighters over 6'2". How would he have handled Wlad? I hate getting in long arguments over "would so and so have beaten so and so" because there is no winning side. You don't know until they get in the ring.
The rest of your post was pretty innacurate but that statement is utter bollocks and deserved to be isolated. Take a look at Tysons opponents right up until he fought Douglas, there were plenty of opponents in there who were over 6'2 and they generally got the **** beaten out of them. The only reason people say this about Tyson is that the few opponents that went the distance back then were 6'4 or 6'5. How many heavyweights AREN'T that tall?
In my mind Wlad tends to be a front runner... it's one thing going 12 rounds with Sam Peter, it's another thing entirely going 12 rounds with early 90s holyfield, I don't think his biggest problem in match-ups with the great 90s fighters is his chin, I think it's his notorious stamina issues, he would easily outpoint Foreman, because foreman could not make Wlad work hard enough to punch himself out, Wlad possibly scores a TKO if he manages to stun Foreman and unload on him, forcing the ref to stop it, i think wlad would easily be the biggest puncher Foreman faces in his comeback he would probably ko Moorer the first time he caught him flush with a big right hand morrison gets knocked out by wlad in about five rounds if not earlier The Tyson of the 90s... who did not have the same reflexes and timing or combination punching... possibly TKOs wlad late if wlad does not conserve his energy, possibly tyson wins a UD after Wlad uses his tremendous height advantage to try to catch tyson coming in and continually tie Tyson up , but I don't think Wlad wins this one because he would be in survivor mode very quickly against tyson and not win the rounds holyfield tkos Wlad in the 11th or 12th round, after Wlad has been wrestling with him the entire time, or possibly wins a split decision Bowe is a hard fight to call, in all fairness, Bowe was fat in the first Golota fight and overtrained/drained looking in the second one, but also, Bowe caught Golota with several flush shots and Golota was not stunned, if I was betting money on it, I'd put money on Wlad to do what Golota did to bowe, and NOT get disqualified Mercer probably loses a close decision to Wlad, similar to the one he dropped to Lewis, OR possibly, again, Wlad gets tired late in the game and gets TKOed golota probably gets KOed in the first three rounds, but if he manages to get warmed up, it's a pickem fight in other words, Wlad would be very competitive in the 90s, definately a belt holder, but if he consistently fought the best, he would be handed his share of losses
Good fair analysis, I agree with most of your post, though something tells me Foreman might catch Wlad with something seeing that he has a leaky defense. I see Bowe being a pick em as well, early 90s Bowe wins, mid 90s Wlad wins IMO.
