Skykes UD but think he will lose the title sooner or later. Think Foster Jnr, Liam Walsh and Paul Appleby would all take him.

O'Hara gave Burns a real argument (losing 7-5 on my card) so could pull off an upset.

The smart bet is either Sykes on points, because I can't see a KO, or a lay bet against Sykes.

Surely every new champion deserves an easy first defence, right? Against someone who lets say has lost every title fight they have contested but preferably still has a respectable enough record to ensure the punters will rock up, right?

Maybe that is what newly crowned British super bantamweight Gary Sykes 15-0 (KO 4) had in mind when his team invited Belfast’s Kevin ‘Sweet Pea’ O’Hara 17-5 (KO 5) to step through the ropes with the Dewsbury dynamo to battle it out for his first defence of the coveted Lonsdale belt at the Huddersfield Leisure Centre this Friday.

With the bookies having the Yorkshireman, who recently wrestled the vacant title away from Andy Morris in a twelve round thriller at the same venue in March, a 1/4 odds on favourite and the ominous sign of Team Sykes talking up the credentials of O’Hara it seems like an open and shut case not worth even a preview article.

O'Hara should come through on a close points decision if he is top shape like he was against Burns and leaves everything in the ring.

In his last fight, he had a brilliant work rate and was all over Burns but he still had loads left in the tank and could have dominated close rounds against Burns. Burns was flattered big time with the scorecards that night - there was nothing in that fight.

 

I think that Sykes will stop O'Hara on cuts in 8 or 9 rounds...:yep

 

Sykes did well against Morris,and i tended to agree with the judges who had Sykes at least 2rounds ahead as opposed to sky pundits who seemed to favour Morris.
Sykes will beat o Hara by UD, he will then go on to beat Johansen which will be his next fight!
