The man's athleticism is undeniable. What I'm wondering is how much actual training he did, and what kind. He had an obvious natural talent for the sport, but to what extent?

No, he actually didn't train hard at all. He just somehow became a world champion.

I guess he trained very hard like every world champion.
    Till 1995 even harder.
After that everytime a little less.

    He had natural talent, athletically
    Everything else came through training.

Roy trained hard. He's known to have been brought up like an animal in training by his father from an early age. It was no fluke that Roy developed into a fighting machine.

Yeah he trained hard. More importantly he took care of himself between fights by staying active, eating right and not partying. The only mis-step he took was comming down from heavyweight to light-heavyweight. He probably should have easied into it better with a fight at cruiser or defend his heavyweight title. From what I've heard he just pretty much starved himself and ran off the muscle for the first fight with Tarver.

Roy was a beast. His mistake was jumping up to heavyweight and then jumping straight back down to fight Tarver. I would have liked to see him stick at heavyweight.

He trained insanely like all AG do. The problem is that he never focused on fundamentals. He did what he could do not what he should do. So as Father Time started repossessing the gifts RJJ was given it started to show at the level he was performing on.
