yes, im talking about the toney fight. as a mma fan im embassed about this fight. its the same as putting ken shamrock against bernard hopkins in a boxing match. what does he expect to gain from this? if toney loses, he is an over the hill boxer with no mma experience. if he wins mma looks like a joke. could dana finally ruin mma reputation once and for all. how will it look if mercer and toney both beat recent HW champs. dana white = complete idiot. rant over
Toney winning would be such a huge blow to MMA's credibilty why even risk it ? Stick Toney in with Mitrione or some other experienced but well known fighter.
Who gives a ****? Toney was the one harrassing Dana for a UFC contract in the first place. He deserves everything he gets in this fight.
I agree. It is a lose lose for mma. But, I did say back in 2005 that the UFC would have the business model of the WWE within 5 years.:deal
WTF? Just because Toney spent a lot of time running his mouth doesn't mean that the fans should get this bull**** shoved down our throats. No way should this fight take up a spot on the main card of a PPV. If they want to do it, it should be free on Spike or Versus. At this point, I really wish Couture would just go away. How much do you want to bet that they try to give him another undeserved title shot after he beats Toney?
I think they might but I seriously hope not. Beating Vera and Coleman did put him in the MIX but hes behind IMO Lil Nog, Rashad, Rampage and really even Machida at this point. Beating Toney would for me do NOTHING to improve his standing. Now if he beats Toney then maybe beats a Machida or Lil Nog then yeah hes deserving IMO. But why do you wish Couture away ? I know him taking this fight sucks but its not like Randy has a history of taking these pathetic fights this guys is very competitive, can still fight at a high level.
Toney is not going to win and all they are going to do is hype Toney up. They won't mention that he's old, can't get any fights in boxing, is a true veteran of the sport with **** loads of fights and started out as a middleweight. I hope Toney knocks Couture the feck out though.
Why would you want Toney to win? Toney is a shitty human being and Randy is a humble sportsman. I don't get it.:huh If it is the boxing vs mma thing, ok I get it. Other than that, WTF???
I want him to win because they bought him in to lose badly, while they'll hype Toney up as the former Heavyweight Champion of the World, a legend blah blah blah without telling the causal fans that' s he's old, way beyond his best, way out of shape and is a former middleweight.
The same could be said for Randy. He is older than Toney, has'nt been a real contender since late 06 early 07. I think Dana ignored Toney for the longest until he figured he could make fake hype and sell this thing. I think it is a shitty fight for a PPV.
I have no problem with these fights. They attracted attention from sources outside the governing organizations primary demographic. Almost always producing an exciting fight for as long as it may last. Primarily due to the specific or more aqccurately lack of all around skill set of a particular fighter. This is like going back to the good old days of MMA. Regardless; Toney is losing early and ugly. Like poster Pimpthesystem basically said, Toney asked for it now he is going to get it!
I'll put money against toney... they would never let another boxer come in and embarass their sport. all the sudden don king gets some cash and pulls mayorga out of there.... he was surely going to punish that dude.
One thing that I'm confused about is how this fight can be classified as a sideshow? It's not like Toney is some other non-combative sports star. It's not like he's a former NBA star who has a name and no relative experience coming in...Toney is a former (or current) Boxing Champion. It's no different then an Olympic wrestler coming in, or an ADCC Champion stepping up to try their luck in the mixed game. Completely different then a side show.
