It's an obvious thing to say, but boxing is unlike any other sport. In boxing, one person can ruin a competitor's career without ever having to compete against them in their arena.

Who are your examples of people (or organisations) who have ruined someone's career through greed, pathetic legal disputes and wrangling, corrupt dealings, or just sheer ineptitude?:think:good

Palle did his utmost to ruin Kessler's career. I think the one most people immediately think of is Don King with Tyson.

Reading Atlas' book it seemed that Cus D'amato also wasn't too helpful in Tyson's career and kinda let him do what he wanted- leading to his downfall.

Only fitting that this is in the British forum. Frank Warren.

I don't mean that in terms of economical success, i mean it as a purist. Careers may have flourished from a boxing p.o.v

Yeah I think Palle's attitude was "if you don't fight for me then you won't fight for anyone else"

According to some Cus wasn't as strict with Tyson as he was with the others because the simple fact was Tyson was "special" and when special people come along they tend to be treated differently.

Boxing is littered with people who allowed themselves to be put in a position where someone else had absolute control over everything within their life - now that is just plain stupidity.

    Simple as that.

Have a lawyer review every contract that is placed in front of you.

    Choose your friends/business partners carefully.

Don King is also doing a mighty fine job with his current stable as well - especially Spinks & Jones.

Lou Duva sabotaged Georgie Benton's career as a fighter, then probabily through guilt appointed Benton as trainer to his fighters and luckily Benton turned out to be a great trainer.
