Overall a really entertaining event. Diaz did exactly what he was supposed to do against Sakurai and Takaya became the first guy to KO Hansen in MMA. Sakuraba needs to retire and Tokoro got steamrolled by Nishiura. Osawa/Maeda and Miyata/Otsuka were really good fights and its also nice to see Yamamoto back to his winning ways. Anyone else watch?
Funny how much of a total twatfaceddicksmoker Nick Diaz is when he is fighting in America and how much different he is in Japan.
I think it all depends on how much marijuana Nick is smoking. Sometimes the guy is classy and hell and others hes a total douche he needs something to even him out IMO. Beautiful armbar by Diaz though shame these guys didnt fight in the past as Sakurai hasnt looked good in years and I doubt he trains as hard as he once did it seems hes looking for paychecks and living off his name. May I ask WTF was going on in Gracie-Sakuraba ? Sakuraba was about to snap Ralek's arm with that halfguard Kimura like he did to Renzo but the ref starts fooling around with Ralek's shorts, cup and then moves them away from the catch which you arent supposed to do and has them restart where Sakuraba no longer has a Kimura locked in. Sounds crazy but Sakuraba got robbed in Japan this morning IMO. Another guy whos best days seem behind him are Joachim Hansen, Takaya is a big puncher but has Hansen ever been KOed ? Hes on a 3 fight losing streak and to me seems alittle slower then he once was. Tough guy whos fought alot of wars his body is likely breaking down. Id honestly like to see Takaya in a rematch with Bibano Fernendes for the 145 ib title their first fight was very good. Nice to see Kid get a nice KO victory and get back in the winners circle although Lopez was basically a can you gotta start the road to redemption somewhere. Id love to see Kid to sign with the WEC and make the long dreamed of fights with Urijah Faber or Miguel Torres.
Finally! I <3 Minowaman. He does need to finally get off the giant killer kick and fight someone his own size though, while he's still got some ability left. Sakuraba and Sakurai are both past it, although their opponents won handily. I'm not a big fan of either family (Diaz or Gracie) but they deserve their props for earning the victories over a pair of legends. "Wicky" Nishiura, "Kid" Yamamoto, and "Evil Fist" Takaya all made my jaw drop with their winning methods. Miyata-Otsuka and Osawa-Maeda were both very competitive (making up nicely for the relative one-sidedness of the rest of the card) and I don't have too much problem with either of the decisions, though I didn't feel "Little Hercules" had won as dominantly as the announcers did. A good event, and my appetite is whetted nicely for 15.
Never seen it but its sad to hear Sakuraba is still fighting, he should have retired 7 or 8 yrs ago when he could no longer be the man at the elite level, I gather he lost to another bum again judging by your comment :verysad
Well, he lost to a member of the Gracie family, so I'd be reticent with the term bum. However, this particular Gracie (Ralek) was in only his 3rd pro MMA fight, and Kazushi got owned in pretty much every area of the game, so it was pretty embarrassing.
Sakuraba is a bad bad accident waiting to happen. He completely embodys the spirit of Bushido but this has to stop now.
I was just glad to see "Kid" back to his winning ways. He had some bad injurys but really looked average in his last few fights.
Nah its a Japanese thing. You rarely if ever saw alot of real animosity in Japanese MMA other than the original wars between rival camps like Hammerhouse Chuteboxe BTT etc.
I'd say most foreign fighters who go there usually have a very different attitude...(probably because of the language barrier and also because the japanese fans are very different from americans ones...this plays a big part imo)... Some fighters never change though...For instance the likes of Nog , fedor , overeem , werdum , shogun...etc...same attitude whether it's in america or japan (or europe)..
