You rate Filho and CroCop above Remy? I know he was defeated by both, but his K1 record is much more impressive.
The problem is that all of these guys could beat each other on their night, and they have done as well. So hard to rank them! Here's my attempt anyway: Hoost Aerts Schilt Hug Bonjasky Hari Filho Cro Cop Not sure if I can really separate Filho and CroCop. I admittedly know little about Filho and both have pretty small K1 records compared to the mammoth records that the others have. I also find it so difficult to split the top 4 as well.:-(
I have one more question. As I am polish, I want to know what do you think would have been Marek Piotrowski's chances in K1? Was he too small? Could he have competed with smaller fighters like CroCop or Hug? [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marek_Piotrowski[/ame]
Thta's a difficult question.The most dominant and strongest champion is obviously Semmy Schilt, but he is skillswise not the best fighter. When you consider skills alone, Hoost is N°1 withouth a doubt. Aerts and Le Banner had the most impressive prime years. As stated many times Schilt uses his size very well (reach + hard to make it close and hit him ) and that along with his stamina ( high workrate) make him very hard to beat. But he's the most boring fighter to watch of that list as well - he makes K-1 predictable and the fact that the sport used to be unpredicable was one of the attractive points
Piotrowski was a great fighter. Highly underrated. If I recall correctly he holds wins over fellow kickboxing greats such as Don Wilson and Rick Roufus. I think he would have been too small for K1 unfortunately as it has always favored the larger fighters. The small fighters just aren't durable enough to battle with several larger opponents in one night. Roufous went on to limited success in K1 but was never able to do well in the big tournaments. He was just too small - and perhaps a bit too old by the time his K1 career began.
Thanks for the answer. Yes he beat these 2 great fighters. Piotrowski captured every possible belt in the full-contact ISKA, KICK, PKC, WAKO-PRO, FFKA, WKA and TBC. Losing in his career only to Roufus (rematch) and Rob Kaman (first Piotrowski's fight in the low-kick formula). He also avenged his loss to Kaman by winning World Champion title (by ISKA) in oriental rules formula (allows low-kicks and knees)
