Does anyone know if the UFC can make their fighters fight each other or do they have the option of saying no? For example. could Dana White MAKE GSP go up in weight and fight Anderson Silva? Or could either one just flat out refuse?

It's an exclusive promotion, and the fighters do what they're told or they get cut.
They can't force you to go down or move up to fight somebody just because everybody wants to see it. like GSP moving up to fight Silva. It's been talk about but if gsp says no i don't want to go up to middleweight then there's nothing dana white can do about it. But they do have control on who fights who within their weight class.
I *THINK* it's Joe Silva that is the matchmaker for the UFC, they would determine the lions share of fights, I imagine something like a GSP Silva fight would need to be pushed by the fighters.
The UFC present them a fight agreement which they can either take or not; turn down to many and your career won't last long. The situation with champions is a little different, well not really different but much more high pressure.
They don't make them fight each other but I think he can apply alot of pressure because they know Dana can be cuthroat. Dana says he doesn't mess about with the fighters weight. He lets them fight where they claim they are comfortable i.e. Sanchez at 170, even though he thinks he should be 155.
