If only the best of the best got inducted to the hall of fame like it should be then i would say no but since it isnt i will say he will be inducted, not first ballot though.

There is no definitive standard for what calibre a fighter has to be to get in. I can see him getting in for that reason.

I have visited the Hall of Fame. It's a small place. The biggest event they have each year is on induction weekend.

Cotto has accomplished a lot and potentially brings in a big base on induction weekend. He is a shoe in. I have no doubt, none whatsoever, that he will be inducted.

Always amazes me how someone like you can fling so much disrespect towards an honest, hard working journeyman like Micky Ward. The guy has given his all and a huge chunk of his life and health to boxing, and did a lot for someone who had a little, while some nobody WoW addict feels smug calling him a tomato can on an online forum. Unbelievable.

    No.

Cotto's a nice guy and a 2 weight champion but both have been vacant titles he's picked up rather than defeating the champion.

I think Hatton has a stronger claim to a place than Cotto and I wouldn't have him in there either.

  8. When I think of HOF I think of greatness.

When I think of Miguel Cotto I don't think of greatness.

Cotto has some underrated wins at JW (Ndou, Torres, Malignaggi, Pinto, Corley), his wins over Quintana, Judah and Mosley will be given more credit as time passes, and his win over Clottey should be seriously considered too.

A win over Foreman and for me he is a definate. Defeat and i have a horrible fear a lot of people will forget who he was and what he brought to the sport during his time in it very quickly.

In this day and age dont you think who you beat matters more then the trinkets they do or dont hold? Just curious.

Ya, being a 'champion' is nice and good.... but the belt holders are not always the best fighters within the division these days, id rather a fighter go after the best available guys, then to babysit a title or go after belt holders who arent as good as some of the beltless (for political reasons) guys in the division.

    just imo.

Once your past a certain stage in your career.... the fighter makes the belt, the belt doesnt make the fighter, and the fact is that the top welters in the world in cottos era were Mosley, Mayweather, Judah, Quintana, Margarito, Clottey, and now that Pac has established himself... Pac.

Cotto went 4-2 against his peers within the upper echelon of the welterweight division, his second weightclass.

Now, im not making a case that he should be in the fame... i think he still has to do a bit more probably, im just saying that i dont think Cotto should get penalised for the political bullcrap of todays boxing, when the guy fought almost all the best fighters out there. I think holding the 'well, they werent champions' thing against him is too much.

Just IMO but i see where your coming from.

It might be too soon to tell, but he has had 5 really tough fights in the past 3 years or so and got his ass kicked in two of those (Margarito, Pacquiao). There's no shame in saying that you got soundly beaten by the fighter of the decade and someone who probably cheated, but his success at 140 hasn't translated at 147. Let's see what he does at 154 before making a definitive judgement. If he dominates Foreman and unifies the title at 154( HUUGE IF considering his body type and fighting style) then he'll be a HOFer. Until then however...:-(

I think Foreman-Cotto is a 50/50 fight myself. Moments ago, I officially changed my prediction to Foreman after favoring Cotto for weeks in the lead-up. The point is, right now I think Foreman will win (by outworking and hustling Cotto down the stretch of a close fight).

Assuming Cotto loses, I still believe he is a lock for the Hall of Fame.

Perhaps there is an argument to be made somewhere on the basis of words like "merit" and "deserves". Forgetting that point of the debate, again, I have no doubt Cotto makes it.

The Hall of Fame is an extremely small venue. Sadly, I have seen grander displays of sports memorabilia in the homes of private collectors.

There big event is induction weekend.

Cotto will get in, no doubt about it.

I think if he faces Margarito and wins, he is.
