A big thanks to everybody who stopped to say hello and buy a book at Seni this last weekend. It was good to see Tim Witherspoon, David Haye, Mark Prince, Colin McMillan, Derek Williams, Errol Christie and the new heavyweight on the block Dillian Whyte. It was a great event and just a pity that more boxing people were not involved. However, I hear some fine rumours. More on that later. Anyway, thanks for buying The Fixer. It's still available on Amazon. By the way the BBC London 94.9 show is from 9pm-10pm this Thursday and for every Thursday during June, July and August. Adios.
I was looking at that but it doesn't seem much of an event for the noble art, moreso those guys in the hotpants so I avoided.
Did anyone see David Haye at SENI? I did, for about a millisecond before he dashed off. Where did he have go so quickly? Steve Bunce seemed to be doing his best to find him as he was pacing around with a scowl all afternoon before quietly slipping out the exist. All I can say is thank God for "Terrible" Tim Witherspoon, an ex-heavyweight champion of the world willing to stay and chat to fans with a welcoming hug and plenty of stories. You know, people like Royce Gracie and Dan Henderson, champions in their own sport, managed to spend HOURS patiently signing autographs and eeking out smiles when photos were requested by the same fans, the fans that got them where they are today. So come on boxing guys, don't be so aloof, you really can't afford to. MMA guys, props to you all. A boxing fan.
Royce Gracie was there for a long time but you had to pay to have a picture with him. Hendo was different class and the pic was free. Tim was charging 20 quid which is a bit steep. The problem was that David never had a time or place arranged. If it had been announced that at 3pm he was due at the Boxing News stand then he would have been there, the pic would have been free and he would have stayed for hours. I grabbed David at the end when I realised that he had missed Mark Prince, who was there with his Kiyan Prince Foundation. David ran back to see Mark when he realised that he had missed him - I mean ran back, trust me. There could be something very, very interesting for all boxing fans, fighters, ex-fighters, trainers, managers, suppliers, agents, promoters and cutsmen in September. By the way, boxing does need to take a look at the way MMA people work with their fans. Adios.
Don't tell me we have to wait until September to find out:verysad Hopefully you can spill the beans tomorrow night on your show - ya big lump! Cheers :good
Well I didn't pay anything for my photo with Royce Gracie but I did pay £20 for Tim Witherspoon which was slightly better value than the £200 I paid for a photo and dinner do with Mike Tyson (never again!). And by the way, people in the boxing business may not need to look at how other sports present themselves, but perhaps they should. As for David Haye, well that's unfortunate, he should have had a slot and I'm sure he would have hung around for his fans - of course he always has time for photos with the Maximuscle girls. Can't wait to hear this "interesting" news, hopefully you can shed more light on it tonight. Keep up the good work fella.
I saw Haye. I was standing with Royce at the time (as you can see in my avatar) but he didnt hang around too long. This years Seni didnt hold a candle to 2008 though. Very poorly organised in comparison although i got some great pictures with Zavickas Sven Carlesen and Mark Felix along with Royce and Mousasi. Never saw Bunce there though. And boxing stands were few and far between.
When i spoke to Tim he told me it was £20 for a photo. I nearly laughed in his face. Tim seemed like a great guy ( who may be broke ) but £20 for a pic was too steep for me. He was there for both days as well.
I was in Montreal for the UFC event in May.I had photos with Dana White,GSP and Shogun. They were more than happy to take pics and were very polite and happy to share in conversation. No money was required. They are first class to all fans.:good
