Hopkins throws 15 punches a round, he is so ****ing boring. Calzaghe has thrown over 100 punches a round. Hopkins is boring and lame, Calzaghe will out-work and clearly out point Hopkins. But he probably wont get much credit.
He did not have to do that cause Tito had **** all for punchning power he looked like a rookie. But before that fight he was the best thing since sliced bread.
I think Calzaghe is very capable of beating Hopkins, and I would pick him by UD.... Way to busy for Hopkins.
atsch Wow sometime boxing knowledge just leaves this board completely. One - Hopkins threw more than 600 punches vs Winky. Two - Winky throws in excess of 1000+ regularly. Three - Winky threw less than Bernard when they fought....and landed less as well. God people stop judging Bernard's workrate on his two fights vs Taylor...where his gameplan was to sit on his punches early and let Taylor punch himself out. He fights the way he feels he has to to win...if that means throwing more (like vs Winky), he does it...if that means throwing less (like vs Taylor) then he does it as well. This myth about his output is ridiculous. Funny how people neglect to mention that he outworks the majority of the fighters he fights....regardless of how busy they are known to be. atsch
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT WInky DOES NOT have a higher punch output than Calzaghe. Seriously man :/
Actually he has very close to, if not more. He regularly throws in excess of 1000 punches...as does Joe. Do your homework bro.
What you mean just like Winky and Taver? Winky is just as lame as Hopkins is. They combined to make one of the wosrt fights in boxing history. Hopkins beat Tarver, but Tarver threw close to nothing in the fight. Were as, Calzaghe is very quick and will throw a large volume of punches, and out work Hopkins.
Yeah I guess I am delusional cause everybody said the same thing with Tito. They said he has too much power and is too fast.
B-Hop is one of my favorite boxers ever, but he would have his hands full with Joe. I'll never count B-hop out, but I think he would have a very tough time with JC at this point in their careers. I'd still love to see it.
I think people are confusing his thread with a prime for prime match up. Prime for Prime this would be absolutley brilliant, now Calzaghe has an edge. 1) His workrate is phenominal. Hops' is not that bad but JC's is much higher. 2) Calzaghe is naturally much bigger. 3) Calzaghe is faster. This is no slight on Hops as 3 years ago I would certainly have given him the edge. However he has a lower work rate and size advantage is not in his favour. I would predict a 116-112 UD for Calzaghe. This would not take away from hops' resume as he will have lost to 2/3 p4p and not be totally outclassed at an extremely advamced age in boxing terms.
I don't think they're on dope when they say that they believe Joe would do it, much of that is cause the fight hasn't been guaranteed and people can make paralells, comparative views on these fighters without thinking seriously at the challenge at hand. But I really believe that Joe C would hit Bernard plenty of times cause he has handspeed so I hesitate before saying that Bernard would make Joe miss that much. Going to the last point, cause I hate P4P ratings and comparative efforts, Bernard did prove his boxing I.Q. and toughness under the adverse atmosphere (MSG packed with Ricans and Bernard staring at all pretty unfazed, absolutely against the odds) whereas Joe has not... Joe is yet to prove that he has the mental strength to be in front of a badass, ex-con brotha from the mean streets of Philly and execute what is understood as his pugilistic advantages... Bernard would probably not be out-thought and that is why Joe is reluctant to face this particular individual. Still, anyone in his neutral POV and if that's possible, likes Calzaghe by decision against Hopkins at this stage.
Yeah but Joe has been fighting bums from the contender. Not the best fighters in the world.Whick Hopkins has!
"........we will go to the States. We will fight Mr Hopkins in his backyard, in Philadelphia. We will go anywhere to get that fight!" Frank Warren said so if he doesn't, what are we supposed to think? That Bernard is running away from Joe Calzaghe in Philadelphia? BS BIGTIME, Bernard would fight Joe in da Street and probably would take Frank Warren's wallet in the process... Joe is not going to the States and all his supporters will worship him until he gets as old as Enzo in Wales, that is what I take from this whole situation... Very unfortunate is that they'll keep on talking about it and still not interested in seeing it, most of them, scandalous bull.
