5-4? This was a robbery that puts Ali's entire legacy into question. Nevermind the crap his corner pulled in the Henry Cooper fight.
Except for Jones/Ali was merely a close fight and the BBC disproved any fight affecting dishonesty about Cooper/AliI a number of years back.
Jones/Ali was close, but Ali won fair and square. And concerning the Cooper fight; the split in Ali´s glove was there beforehand - Dundee didn´t cut it.
very very nice thread, one of the softspoken weaker points in ali's fantastic legacy that is over shadowed by ali's great fights and even greater popularity.
close fight, Doug probably shouldve gotten the nod, but the judges were swayed by Ali going forward and turned off by Jones negativity, just like Sturm-DLH, Trinidad-DLH, and countless other fights.
Jones probably deserved the victory, but it doesn't do anything in my opinion to detract from Ali's legacy.
I don't know, close fight but in my opinion some people on this board are saying Jones won beacuse Ali is Ali.
Rubbish. Have you even seen the fight? It was close, but there is no way Jones won enough rounds to get the nod. Ali won it. The only reason it's controversial is because everyone expected Ali to demolish him, and it was a close fight. Cooper? Geez, this just keeps going doesn't it? It has been proven that the split gained Ali 10 seconds or so. Actually, I think they found it was 12 seconds. That is official. All the myths about it being several minutes are just that, myths. It has been proven time and time again by unedited footage of the fight, with no commercial breaks. Ali destroyed him in round 5, and that is the end of it. Just goes to show what he can do when he gets serious and stops clowning.
You realize that this thread is a parody of the one bashing Calzaghe for his performance against Saiko Bika, right?
