I think 2 things make him a top #10 ATG.

    1) His punching power.
    2) The 2nd best heavyweight comeback ever.

who had a better comeback in heavyweight, or any weight for that matter, than foreman? :huh

he retired from the sport for 10 years before coming back and and recaptured the LINEAL heavyweight title 20 YEARS after losing it the first time by KOing an undefeated 26 year old champ.

    foreman's the ****

    Vitali Klitschko.

Knocked out a young WBC champ who had never been KOed before and hasn't been since. Dominated 8 rounds without getting touched in possibly the most one sided title fight ever. Despite being away for nearly 4 years and being the outsider with the gambling agencies.

As much as I love big George, I agree that Vitali's comeback was more impressive, in that he took on the titleholder.........right outta the gate. Where as George gradually fought his way back in a long series of slow steps up in competitoin.

But then again, George was idle for 10 years, whereas Vitali was for 4.

Arguements can be made for either comeback, but I tend to think Vitali's cold comeback against the titleholder Peter was unprecedented in heavyweight history.

George was so good in his comeback due to his power, and ability to relax and not get flustered in the ring. Even when getting hammered by better and faster, younger fighters like Moorer, George kept his cool, and stayed on his gameplan..........and eventually, his gameplan (landing a shot from hell) came through for him.

But some foes he took on proved to be too much, even for the powerful, relaxed George. Holy boxed his ears off.

i would've never guessed it was vitali lol

its true that vitali won it right away after coming back, but against who? and after how many years of retirement? and how old was he?

foreman retired 10 years compared to vitali's 4. foreman beat moorer to capture the lineal title, vitali beat peters for the wbc belt. do you think sam peters is better than michael moorer? foreman was 45 while vitali was 37.

    not even close imo

No ****ing way is Vitali's comeback better. 10 year retirement, and taking the HW title in your 40's? That is a ridiculous feat by any standard of the sport.

I sense the "Klitschko fan quote of the week" might be coming from this thread.

Foreman was just a freak of nature in the power department, plain and simple. Even the punches that looked lazy were had a **** load of power behind it. Those few seconds of Foreman casually walking towards Cooney and throwing that uppercut still cracks me up.

a good lesson for any young fighter would be to look at tapes of george foreman and michael grant and realise what a big difference little things can make.
the beauty of boxing is being aware of these subtleties and its these things that land a fighter on his arse once he's 'lost his edge' but doesn't see it.

the mental game is gold. gold!

just ask zab judah or tyson after d'amato died.
