In some of the longest, and most famous, boxing series... Harry Wills defeated Sam Langford an amazing 14 times. Jack Britton beat Ted Kid Lewis 9 times. Langford had 7 wins against Joe jeannette. Jack Dillon beat Battling Levinsky 6 times. Etc., etc. These men are of course all HOFers, but the assignment here is to name the non-HOFer, who occupies the highest spot on this list. Or in other words: Which non-HOFer can claim to have scored the most wins against a man, who today is in the IBHOF?
That always puzzled me, Holman did so well against everyone except the Kid, who in turn lost against opponents Holman would beat. Styles....
Soldier Bartfield is an interesting one: Beat Jack Britton twice. Beat Ted Kid Lewis three times. Beat Harry Greb once. Beat Billy Papke once.
Hey I should be on that list !! As ayoung guy in 1945 I shook hands with Soldier Bartfield, who then grabbed me in a clinch and pounded my side, til my father seperated us...soldier Bartfield was about55 years old ,but he was sure strong, for his age...I wanted a match with Harry Greb, but Greb was dead by that time in 1945..b.b.
