In regards to the "having sex before a fight weakens you" this sports science episode tested it with Chris Byrd.

    - His punching power on day 2 (after sex) was higher

    - The testosterone levels in his blood on day 2 (after sex) were higher.

    For what it's worth

There are a few guys on this forum (including the thread starter i think) who would probabley disagree with you. You and i have only seen grainy black and white film of Armstrong whereas these guys have actually seen him fight, which,as im sure you'll agree, would put them in a unique position of seeing both ages at first hand and maybe better placed to judge

You can, but everyone has a different ceiling that is determined by genetics (muscle fibre types). And you don't even have to train very hard to get close to your own ceiling, so that's why speed and punching power look like such natural attributes.

But what's more difficult is translating that speed and power into actual fighting. It's easy to be as fast and powerful as you can be, on a heavybag. But you first need to be real comfortable sparring etc.. to be able and translate it in the ring.

Thanks, V, this may have boxing conditioners totally rethinking their approach. Boxers may not be better, but they sure-as-hell will be happier.

technique is the equalizer. big bangers rarely are boxing competent only thinking about the fight not about winning rounds. vica versa guys with alot of speed think about small spots.
guys with good technique can get the punches to the target while also staying covered, no doubt you cant become a monster puncher or a speedy slickster with just training. but all in all boxing knowledge wins.

sex before fight issue. it must depend on the fighter, if your a slick boxer looking to outpoint the other feller then byrd's attitude isnt going to change. an aggressive fighter will have a bit more anger and venom when he fights.

SPOT ON! V. Technique's how savvy pros make up for lack of hand speed or an eraser.

I dont know that I refuse to accept any truths in boxing.

I read someone say punching power can be built and all that, I agree with that.. but some people have the delivery/snap that can't really be taught.
Julian Jackson-like, he finds you at the end of his magic range, and you're going to sleep, I dont care who you are.

As much as guys want it to happen, it's a losing cause. Workin' 24/7 won't get it. Can't turn a singles hitter into Barry Bonds.
