Wladimir – he would’ve beaten Ali: I’m going to start with facts. At his best, Wladimir Klitschko is nearly unbeatable. Standing six-foot-six - with his mesomorphic body type, unbelievable strength and athletic ability that hasn’t been bettered in heavyweight boxing history. Like many of the greats, he has lost a few fights and learned from his mistakes. A product of the Eastern Bloc amateur boxing program, Wladimir won the 1996 Olympics and turned professional. Don King tried to get him, but he fought in Germany under Universum Promotions. He did well, by all accounts, it was hard finding opponents to fight him, but those that did got knocked out. Then he ran into the underrated, hard hitting and very dangerous Ross Purity; and lost because he hadn’t learned to pace himself. The boxing world rejoiced. However, Wladimir isn’t a quitter, he learned from his mistake and went on to KO the extremely awkward Chris Byrd in 12 rounds for the WBO heavyweight title. An Eastern European heavyweight champion, it was kept quiet. . . Then Wladimir started to improve -- he started to be surer with his jab, shorten his punchers and his power increased. He was getting frightening and scary bad-boys-from-the-ghetto like Jameel McCline were brutalized in a way that only McCline’s post-fight comments can convey. "I let MY PEOPLE down," McCline said. For him, the fight was racial. . . After beating them, Wladimir faced Corrie Sanders and was taken apart by the ‘90’s most underachieving heavyweight. The boxing world rejoiced. I read an article that described Wladimir as a "heavyweight hype," and I could almost smell Neo-Marxist creeps praying to their godless universe that it had been kept quiet. Wladimir slowly crept back into the scene with incredible self-belief, willpower and unparalleled athletic genius. Wladimir hit his Golden Years. Yes, he lost to Lamon Brewster because he (could have) lost his stamina. In the return, he hurt him - badly. Yes, he did get knocked down by the hard-hitting DaVarryl Williamson. He won, it was an off night. But he was learning, fast. Klitschko "battered" Samuel Peter for a unanimous decision. The giant Nigerian was hailed as the division’s savior, but when he meet Wladimir, cruel jibes about his weight and crude skills surfaced. The trend has continued – those bedwetting media haters don’t like what's happening. On April the 22nd, 2006, Wladimir toyed with Chris Byrd for seven rounds and then knocked him out. He won the IBF belt. Chris Byrd did his best, but he couldn’t be expected to stop Wlad. After beating Byrd, Wladimir has beaten every challenger put infront of him: Calvin Brock – Olympian - beaten in seven rounds; Sultan Ibragimov – Wladimir schooled him over the distance; and Hasim Rahman – a street-thug who learned to fight in the "Hood" – didn’t even bother to fight back and was KO’d in the 7th. The story goes on, due to David Haye’s "back injury," Wladimir faced the fearsome Ruslan "The White Tyson" Chagaev and took him apart in the 9th. Then goes on to viciously knock out the likeable #1 ranked contender "Fast" Eddie Chambers at the end of the 12th round. He’s become too good; there isn’t anybody out in the horizon that can beat him and no one in boxing history too.
The Foreman comparison even by your own admission is terrible. Vitaly is likely to fall outside of the top 20 ATG HW list. If want to aggrandize Klitschko don't do it at the expense of real ATG fighters. The HW division was dominated by Americans because they happened to have the best fighters, not because the rest of the world was shut out. Had the Iron Curtain fallen sooner they would have entered the mix only to be dominated by the same Americans who were incidentally, great fighters. When Vitaly turned pro in '96 nobody cared. You still had Tyson, Holyfield and Lewis as the division elite. With Moorer, Golota, Tua, etc were showing promise. Vitaly was an unknown. Actually the Americans stage the best boxing shows. That is not subjective either. The biggest fights in history have taken place on American soil. Vitaly is called a robot because of his style. Not because he's European. If nobody wanted to fight him back then its because nobody ****ing heard of him. And what kind of slurs have you actually heard? Just ask Lennox Lewis if he got preferential treatment because he's black. Jeffries, Dempsey, Tunney, Marciano are included in many top 10 HW lists among many boxing writers from the US and they are white so there is no conspiracy to promote Black American fighters. Herbie Hide was not even a flash in the pan. If he called Klitschko names big deal- trash talk is common in sports. "Bumbaclot" and "Rasclot" are not racist terms. They can be used universally to demean anybody. So Vitaly-the-oppressed is not a victim of racial slurs if that is what you are insinuating. The boxing world changed because the marquee fighters were getting older and newer crop was pedestrian. Not only is Vitaly not one of the best HWs of all time. Vitaly dislocating his shoulder and getting criticized by arm chair warriors is one thing, but fellow boxers have chimed in with their disdain for his decision to quit. There have been Champions who've fought through injuries and pulled out the wins. Danny Williams dislocated his shoulder in the 3rd round against Mark Potter. He sucked it up and stopped him 3 rounds later using his good arm. After the fight his arm was put in a sling and he was taken to the hospital. Vitaly only had 2 rounds to go. Ross Puritty and Larry Donald were never world beaters. . Lennox Lewis was and has always been a class above Klitschko. Vitaly was in his prime and was given the fight that he wanted badly against a faded Lewis who was at his heaviest and he still couldn't close the deal. And don't talk about honor. Lewis did not need a rematch, as much we all would have loved to see it; Lewis didn't need it. His body was breaking down and he realized that he simply didn't have it anymore and its time to go. Its almost as ridiculous as saying Vitaly was afraid of losing to Hasim Rahman because he cancelled on him 3 times. Vitaly knew his body and knew he couldn't get into proper condition so he retired. Or does Vitaly have no honor? I mean to sign an contract and have Hasim Rahman pay his staff of sparring partners, trainers, etc for months with the anticipation of a payday only to get jerked in the end? You tell me. Klitschko performed very well in the fight and was quite impressive. But Lennox ultimately overcame his deficit in form of a right hand causing a massive cut on Vitaly's eye that was grotesque. Lennox wasn't lucky, the odds simply favored Lennox to win and he did just that. People were disappointed because they saw what was the decided underdog come close to beating the champ all to be snatched away. The ending was not as conclusive as people wanted consequently they were upset. I know because I was too. But one thing is for sure, the best thing that could have happened to Vitaly was the fight was stopped. Because it is very possible that Lewis who had regained momentum, could have stopped him in the 7th round. Corrie Sanders was a semi-retired golfer who is rountinely aggrandized by Klitschko fans because he upset Wladimir Klitschko at the time he was considered the heir apparent. As for Danny Williams? Well, he was supposed to be fodder for an old Mike Tyson a fighter who had won his first title more than 18 years before Klitschko vs. Wiiliams. Vitaly's comeback was pretty good. Can't argue with that. Final note; considering that Vitaly and Wlad routinely fight out of Germany its becomes increasingly difficult to pump advertising dollars to fighters who don't excite the fans. Nice Guy, Boring Style: Doesn't work You'll remain relevant if you're champ or you keep winning but its not a winning formula. Nicy Guy, Exciting Style: Works See Pacquaio (and no he's not American) Boring Style, Exciting Personality: Works See Mayweather.
And Ironchamp wins the prize. :happy You guys are so damn serious all the time :tong I actually found the article on a white athlete website, of course I had to clean it up so It wouldnt get deleted or I get banned.
