Is Calzaghe the greatest British boxer of all time?

Lennox Lewis & Nigel Benn have better records.

 

Yeah, Lewis is better, in my opinion.

Of modern fighters I'd have Calzaghe & Benn at 2 & 3.

Interestingly, the confirmation of Joe's greatness puts a prime Robin Reid's abilities in perspective, I think, still Calzaghe's hardest fight by far.

 

I don' know about Lewis and Benn being better than Calzaghe.Benn was fierce but seriously flawed , and lost to guys like Eubanks, Watson, Malinga and Collins.Nigels reigned as a partial SM champ for less than a year, and then about four years compared to over a decade for Joe.Style wise, Nigel would be made to order for Joe, with little chance of a big punch turning the tide, because Joe showed his chin is very solid.
Lennox Lewis was ktfo twice by otherwise very beatable contenders in Rachman and McCall.He shows no wherenear the chin that Joe has.Based on these arguments, there IS a case for considering Calzaghe better than Benn or Lewis.

 

I don't know much about British all time greats, especially the old timers, but I think Calzaghe is greater that Lewis, Hatton, Benn and Fitzsimmons.

 

True, Reid was monstrously difficult back in the day. Just ask Ottke: even with the ref on his side, he needed pre-written scorecards to beat Reid.

 

Due to his incredible longevity and as he's unbeaten over 17 years(approx94fights) I'd have to say he probably is the best post 1945

 

I would say yes in Britian.

 

I think wins over Holyfield, Tyson & klitschko aswell as other top comp and titlists like Ruddock, Morrison, Tua, Rahman, Akinwande, Mccall, Briggs, Golota & Mercer overshadows anythng Calzaghe has done.

 

It's a toss up between Calzaghe and Lewis, I think. The likes of Fitz, Wilde and Benn etc come next. :good

 

Cant justify having calzaghe over Lewis...undefeated dont mean a thing when youve only fought 1 true elite in your boxing career.

Calzaghe is a terrific fighter, but he's got some tough opposition in this regard.

Lennox Lewis, Bob Fitzsimmons, Jimmy Wilde, etc...

Joe's had some nice wins over the years but he needs to do more to be given such a lofty title as greatest British boxer ever.
