A quote from the daily mail has no credibility. They make that stuff up.

hopkins fought calzaghe in between 2 of his best wins over wright and pavlik. joe was over the hill at the end of his career and went to hopkins backyard, fought at a new weight for the 1st time with a corrupt ref who let hopkins break every rule in the book.

the only reason it was a shite fight was because hopkins did everything he could to make it that way, spoiling at every opportunity.

one thing no one can take away from joe calzaghe whether you like him or not is that he put everything on the line when he fought, he went toe to toe with everyone, never holding, and when he was in trouble or got knocked down, he got back up and took the fight back to the opposition instantly :deal

Hopkins fought to survive. How could you possibly score the fight to him...........oh that`s right you`re a Yank. You had Lacy beating JC by split decision. JC clearly didn`t want to tour round the country promoting a second with with Hopkins and endure listening to his sh*te all over again. JC the American legend slayer. :happy

Can't argue with you on this one Banger, except I don't think the ref was corrupt. Just ........very forgiving.

PS- What a brutal fight to watch.

The same ref wasn`t very forgiving to Ricky Hatton when he did some holding against Mayweather. Hopkins (American fighter) allowed to continually hold. Ricky Hatton (British fighter) not allowed to hold at all. Most strange. :huh

lol i've only watched that fight once des, i refuse to watch it again, it was a horrible match up stylisticly. i do give credit to hopkins though, he is a real clever guy, he knows how to neutralize an opponents strengths and take a fighter out of their rhythm. no one looks good fighting hopkins.

To be fair only two people looked good against Hopkins plus Calzaghe's & Hopkin's styles don't mesh up well. Hopkins does take breathers but he usually gets a little more agressive afterwards like he did against Calzaghe and Jones in the second fight. Neither Hopkins or Calzaghe are/were in too much of a hurry to face Dawson but to be fair neither guy has an obligation to face Dawson, they already achieved all they need to.

You ever notice that Hopkins is an ex-con and still finds a way to break rules by doing so in the ring?lol I'm still a fan of his.

Come on, Pug, Hatton got in plenty of holding in that fight. It was like watching extreme ballroom dancing for much of the 1st half of that fight. Almost unwatchable. I tried rewatching it once and almost turned it off. And yes, Mayweather was doing his share of the work, but it seemed a crucial part of Hatton's gameplan that night. So Cortez's breaking them hurt him far more. Only after Cortez forced them to fight did the excitement actually begin. Unfortunately, it was then that you also saw the separation in skills. I was rooting for Hatton that nite, but regardless, I actually commend Joe Cortez for getting control of that fight and making the fighters fight.

"Yes as Ring LHW champ he fought Jones who was a top 10 Ring fighter.
Just think for all the critism of Calzaghe, when Hopkins was Ring champ he didnt fight any contender in The Ring LHW top 10 or even a LHW, yet Hopkins is praised and Calzaghe critisied.
    Shows how silly you are
    "

    Interesting point

Calzaghe has no place in the ring with Dawson. The only way to beat Dawson, IMO is to expose his chin. A bit like how Adamek beat Cuningham. He really wasn't outboxing Cuningham, but he scored enough KDs to insure he won that fight.

Calzaghe is a notorious slapper, not a puncher to expose Dawson. Plus, Dawson moves too well, he'd easily beat Calzaghe.

Les Dawson would have more chance of beating Joe Calzaghe than Chad.

People seem to forget how convincingly he beat Adamek
