Complete beginners guide to a boxing routine

    No offense intended, but, what kind of gym to you go to where they let you spar with 14 ounce gloves. Sparring in my gym is done with 16 ouncers, no smaller no bigger, and no Cleto Reyes allowed.

    Your a liar, Roach allows sparring with 14 ounce gloves, Perhaps your story of training there isnt as valid as you want us to think it is:think

    Agreed. And wouldn't that depend on weight class as well? A lightweight sparring with 14 oz would be bad, but a 240 pound heavyweight wearing 16 oz backyard boxing gloves would somehow add credibility to his story? I spar with 14 oz gloves but what matters is the padding, not the weight. Before this I had 16 oz gloves but the padding was ****, I felt my knuckles connect.

    This is an excellent routine. As a begginer following this though I would advise easing into it as it's pretty tough if your body isn't used to that intensity of training.

    Hey guys, I'm kinda new to this and was wondering, do I need to work on my biceps with dumbells and stuff like that, or is it possible to just stick to this routine for strenght exercises? Thanks in advance!

    probably the best amateur gym in ENGLAND with over 250 national champions including a gold medalist and a nigel benn:deal

    and i used to always wear reyes for sparring, reyes or fairtex.

    dont do any dumbell curls you wont gain anything from them for boxing.stick to push ups.chin ups.sit ups.burpees.medicine ball slams ect..

    im looking at getting into boxing, however my cardio is terrible as over the last year i've been focusing on lifting weights. before i even consider walking into my local boxing gym, do you suggest that i ease off the weights and concentrate on my fitness for the next 4-5 months? if so, what can you recomend to get me started? light jogs, sprints? etc. Also im 20, do you think i've left it too late to start up? cheers.

    If you do this routine religiously your cardio will get good enough. And unless you own a Tardis, your choice is to either start at 20 or wait until you get older - so get cracking.

    Hey guys, this is a fantastic thread for someone like myself trying to get into boxing more.

    Along the lines of general training/conditioning for beginners, can any of you recommend good books on boxing training? Ideally, I'd love one book with everything from fundamentals (stance, punches, blocks) to using heavy or speed bags to workouts designed to make you fitter, faster, stronger, etc.

    Frazier's book is excellent, but no book will teach you to box.
