Bob Arum is an idiot if he goes this route.

GL: Margarito will fight Golden Johnson on the undercard. Where does Margarito go if he's victorious on Saturday night?

BA: "Well, we're looking for, and we were discussing today at HBO, the possibility of putting Margarito with Cotto, assuming they both win. That's a fight that everybody knows will do big business. This is Margarito's way back. I thought Margarito won the Williams fight. I was always against him taking that fight, but he did and his hand wasn't raised, so this is his opportunity to come back and get into a big fight some time next year."

Arum seems very enamored with letting his fighters fight each other these days...

Who wouldn't if one can line one's pocket doubly?:yep

paul williams picked apart margarito and dictated the pace of that fight. he was in total control.

margo proved himself a good fighter that night though.

he worked his socks off after the 4th rd.

unfortunately williams more than matched him.

Let's just say - Cotto beats Mosley - he's suppose to go backwards and fight Margarito. YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!

There would be bigger fights out there for him, such as: De la Hoya, Mayweather, the winner of Williams/Cintron, Hatton - Margarito should be at the end of this list.

Margarito damn near lost to Clottey last December - then lost to Williams in his next fight. **** Bob Arum.

From the fan's stand point, Cotto should fight the best there is. From the promoter's (Arum) stand point, Cotto should have some easy fights to lengthen his boxing life which in effect will lengthen the life of the cash cow of the promoter. So Arum doesn't think like an idiot after all. He may look idiot in the eyes of the fans but Arum knows how to prolong the life of his cash cows. That's brilliant!

Margarito is not a top fighter, Arum will only let Margarito in with Cotto for money and nothing else. Margarito gets beaten and broken, sent into retirement in this one.

I disagree with this fight. Mainly for this reason - Cotto would be coming off Judah a very fast fighter. Then he would be coming off a fight with Mosley a very fast fighter. And he should stick with the formula and get in there with Floyd a very fast fighter. What would the point be to digress and put him in there with a slow ass fighter like Margarito?

Please keep Cotto in his groove arum because if Cotto brutilized Mosley, Mayweather would be next! Mayweather will have to fight Cotto, expecially if the fight is amazingly good he won't be able to deny the super fight vs Cotto. As much as I like Mosley, I think Cotto vs Mayweather is just the biggest thing out there right now.

The real question is why, as a boxing fan, you're calling Arum out for a potential Cotto/Margarito matchup?

If cotto beats mosley, I see cotto ending up fighting the winner of cintron/williams to unify the welterweight belts. Mayweather doesn't want to fight Cotto and its true, cotto should not go backwards and fight margarito.

hopefully mayweather gives cotto a shot at the P4P title, but imma have to say we will see cotto vs. williams in 2008.
