An incarcerated Mike Tyson described McClellan as "the best fighter in the world."

G-Man was one of the best

He wouldve beaten anyone in the super 6

But against Ward and Dirrell ...things wouldve gotten interesting

Hit like a mule but was quite limited. Got tagged a bit too much for my liking as well.
    Not a likeable person neither.

Unfair to compare him to human boxers.

I wouldn't say he was superhuman, but he was on that end.

The punches he took from Jackson and Benn had knocked out dozens and dozens of other men, and he took dozens. And 20 first-round KO's, double world champion at 25 and 20-second knockouts in title defenses speaks for itself.

I agree, 100%. He was a magnificent fighter, would beat Bute and every member of the Super Six, and everyone currently at 160.

The loss to Dennis Milton wasn't that suprising - Milton who beat Barkley (then-WBC champ) and Nunn (then-IBF champ) before turning pro and was world #1 contender in 1990 and 1991 - I mean what was a 21-year-old kid with no rounds under his belt doing in with such a slick pro like Milton anyway? Steward wasn't even in the corner that night, he was with Dennis Andries in the dressing room. (Tyson and King were ringside!)

I've not seen the Ralph Ward loss, but I know Steward was consumed with Tommy for Leonard II and couldn't train Gerald. Some guy called Willie Brown trained him.

One of my favorite fighters of all time. Had ATG power and very intimidating. I love his fight with Julian Jackson. Was robbed in that fight that ended his career and should have been awarded a KO. The guy would terrorize the 168 pound division today with Ward being the only guy I'd even give a chance of beating him. He would pound Froch out, Make Kessler quit, outwork and outbox Abraham, stretch Dirrell and flat out destroy Green
