As far as his chin, he's like Hopkins in the sense that we don't really know just how good their chin really is because they take so little flush shots but it doesn't matter so much when you able to avoid punches the way they do. I will say that Miranda, Kessler, and Green each landed at least one flush punch, and these guys can punch, and he took them fine.
Ward showed excellent inside fighting and didn't give enough space for Green to throw big punches but gave himself enough space to land at will. I like the way he fought and thought he didn't really fight like Hatton because Green was the one doing most of the holding(I take nothing away from Hatton). Can't wait to rewatch the fight especially me being a Ward fan and all:good I agree with everything you said here^.
I agree with this as well, but he was essentially full stamina, not a lot of punishment prior to this. I'm curious how he responds to those shots in say the 7th or 8th round of a tough fight. By no means am I implying his chin isn't top of the line...I don't know yet, if we are conceding it is, then to me you are basically saying the kid is going to be an ATG because he has no real weaknesses that have been displayed to this point. He is damn good, and if he were to prove to have a stellar chin, he will dominate this division for a long time, IMHO.
No, no I can't ever consider Ward an ATG yet I'll just see how his career plays out. Everyone has a weakness it's just the factors that are: who will expose them? & will they ever be exposed? As far as chin, he got hit by a good shot by Green but ate it. To me if you go by your career not getting hit flush often but taking them so you can win when you do get hit flush then that is impressive. So far Ward has shown when he gets hit clean he takes them well and hasn't been hurt in awhile and NOW he's fighting better and harder-punching people than when did get hurt early in his career.
Well I should clarify my earlier point, what I mean is that he is on pace to be an all time great in this division, as he is essentially fighting the best of the division now, he has no real weaknesses, and if his beard proves to be solid, then there is nothing I have seen that would lead me to believe the kid can't/won't be on the top of this division for a long time, which would/should lead to him being an all time great. My implication was a bit miscommunicated on my end, my bad on that.
Ward could have chosen a dozen of ways of beating Green. He chose an ugly one. He doesn't have to, he has the skills to do it another way. It was a very boring fight.
Credit to ward he did what he had to do but i want to see the 'killer instinct' from him if im to become a fan
Ward showed his skill again against Green, Ward is one of the top guys in the sport right now. I wish he would have tried to get the ko against Green since Green wasn't putting up much resistance. Green is a decent fighter but Ward took the fight away from him early and Green didn't want to be there anymore. I didn't think the fight was going to be a fight of the year candidate but I think most of the blame falls on Green, its hard for a fight to be entertaining when only one of the fighters fight.
Ward's performance reminded me of some of Hopkins' performances where I was disappointed that he wasn't boxing like I wanted him too - but he was still winning the fight. Now I go back and find those fights entertaining.
