Ward-Dirrell September 25th

With an uppercut. Dirrell always seems to be sold a bit short.........could be he shuts folks up with a win over Ward.

 

Definitely the toughest fight to call of the next round fights. I'm still not entirely convinced by Ward. Are his two victories in the tournament against an out-of-sorts Kessler and an over-matched Green, or has he cleverly and successfully nullified the differing threats of each? Dirrell on the other hand is underrated in my opinion - very quick, and a punch that's a lot heavier than he's given credit for. Of course there's the question of whether Dirrell's got the attitude/fighter's instinct, but for me, in the (admittedly) few fights I've seen of both - Dirrell looks the better boxer.

 

I've gone for Dirrell. Quite surprised by how close the poll is. I thought you were all on Ward's nuts. I was obviously wrong.

From what i've heard these two camps are really, really close. Ward's trainer was giving Dirrell instructions in the Abraham fight and the two Andre's interact like the Klits, you'd think they were brothers.

Anybody think this might have an impact on the fight? could Ward ease up on Dirrell knowing his mate needs a win to go through?

It'd be interesting to see if their close relationship effects the intensity of the bout....can't think of too many 'wars' between fighters that were this close, must be really difficult to fight a really close mate, although it didn't matter to Simon Brown and Maurice Blocker. lol

straight / rangey punches only
on the back foot constantly
spoil or run when ward tries to get off
pot shot all night

dunno how that ko affected them tho

 

Expect this to be a stinker.

Ward is just more savvy than Dirrell, he'll squeak enough rounds to win, Dirrell will wail that he's been robbed, half of ESB will agree with him and say that they scored it 10-2 Dirrell solely on the basis of a flashy combination that Dirrell threw in the 11th....

 

Ward is a professional and will do a job on Dirrell regardless of friendship.

I f'n hope so anyway, Dirrells a nobber.

 

I can see Dirrell taking a clear UD. That man's talent is incredible.

 

Ward for me in what will be a chess like bout to start with,and Ward finishing off strongly.

As far as a spectacle goes,cant see it being a great fight at all. I was far more intrigued by Abraham/Dirrel because of the clash of styles.

 

Apparently this fight is in jeopardy because these two are too pally to fight eachother.

I told you all their close relationship may effect this fight. My problem is why would you enter a tourney like this knowing you'll have to fight eachother? now they've gone and messed the whole thing up.

 

If this fight goes to the score cards it will be a draw :deal

3 points puts Dirrell through in every scenario i can think of.
If Abraham beats Froch, Dirrell would be above Froch (2points)
If Froch beats Abraham, Dirrell would go through instead of Abraham because he beat him.

Even if Green KO's Kessler and gets 3 points he would have won less rounds on the tie break system so Direll would still go through.

Plus a draw between Ward and Dirrell would allow a massive all-American showdown after the Super Six finishes

 

Is this still on for the 25th? Saw showtime advertising it the other night, but i was under the impression they hadn't even agreed on a vanue and it was to be delayed if not called off. :?

 

it can't possibly be on. no venue, no promotion, no tickets sold, neither fighter apparently in camp. i'm very surprised they still advertised it the other night
