It's all good. You chose Liston but you backed it up with why you thought that way. I can see your points but this fool picks the 3 losses when rating Wlad while not mentioning the strong points. "**** himself in the staredown" as if................:rofl
Yeah... I know what you typed. But every boxer has the ability to throw a punch.. does that mean every boxer would knockout wlad? you seem to have beef on every fighter around.
Personally this is how I see it: They box for a round, and feel eachother out. Liston jabs with some sucess and eats a few Wlad right hands without much trouble. They clinch, and Liston gets in a few body shots. He's strong enough to not be manhandled by the taller Wladimir. The fight goes like this for a while, until Liston smells blood. Liston hits wlad with a left hook and Wlad goes down. Wlad gets back up but Liston goes after him and starts pounding on him with all kinds of shots. Liston wins by 8th round knockout.
Liston has a punchers chance but lets face it only Ali had the type of Jab Sonny would have to face with Vlad and a right hand rocket to boot. I thought Liston was the toughest ever when I was a young kid but in retrospect Liston was beatable and not as mentally strong as I thought. Liston would be facing a man 6 1/2 inches taller with his reach and 30 lbs of sculptured muscle...It may hurt his thought process and the Jab would bother Sonny...I think Vlad after a slow cautious jab pump in the first few rds start letting the hands go and stops Sonny by the 8th-9th rd
Liston was a real fighter and he would brutally ko Wlad. I agree the left hook would be a key punch. If you watch Liston he always follows up with his hook. I see Sonny landing his long right hand over Wlads very low left and the follow up hook takes him out. I say within 5 rounds.
Assuming you aren't trolling here.. You like talking about Liston's resume, which actually isn't bad given how weak his era was. Wlad's resume is nothing special either, filled with average "could be" types. Wlad would have a shot to KO liston, but I think Liston's jab would give Wlad huge problems. I think it comes down to the height size difference if Wlad were to win. It's alot closer than what you suggest imo, since they can both be knocked out by eachother Really surpised you would even suggest that Puritty could come close to beating Liston. They are classes apart.
This is one of those rare Wlad fantasy fights where I give the opponent a very good chance. Wlad, although he faced a better quality of opponent than most of his detractors would give him credit for, never fought an opponent who could match jabs with him. In fact the closest he came to a Liston-like opponent was Ray Mercer who, on the few occasions he threw (not just landed, but threw) his jab, succeeded in snapping Wlad's head back and marking him up. Haye was able to do the same. You could say that's not much to go on to support Liston's chances, but unlike either of the above, Liston was a committed jabber, and someone for whom the jab was an essential cornerstone to success. Whether or not he's getting badly outboxed, he's going to be pumping that thing constantly in Wlad's face and landing it hard. It might not be enough to win, but it's going to make things awfully uncomfortable for Wlad, and that's the first key to beating him. If it comes down to a battle of jabs then I'd favour Wlad, not because his jab is faster (it obviously is) but because his feet are faster as well, and could skip him out of dangerous situations if he finds himself getting pushed back to the ropes. Liston will try to hold his ground, no matter what, and depending on how the fight is going that might either be a good or a bad thing for him.
Wlad has better footwork then Sonny? Bro if he had such good footwork he would be able to run away rather then clinch. His feet stay flat on the canvas. Let's be honest here Sonny has the power, offensive head movement, stamina to take Wlad out mid rounds. Wlad biggest advantage is his reach and power but Sonny has that covered while the added mobility of his body and his greater footwork shuffling in,out, side to way while moving his head(Wlad only has the jab and straight right to the head). Wlad is very limited Sonny is not.
Yes, good footwork. Great control of distance, good lateral movement, ability to cut off the ring through short shuffle steps whilst still maintaining a firm base from which to punch. Resets very quickly. Almost always in preferred punching range, hardly ever lets his opponent get into theirs. Good footwork. Sonny, for his part, has underrated head movement. Subtle but quite effective.
All that is over rated because his opponents are simply standing there right in front of him. He almost fell over when vs Haye.
