jg reread your article about Stillmans Gym..We are the few left who were at Stillmans during that Golden Age...What glorious memories you bring up about Terry Young,who I saw fight Beau Jack,1942 at St Nicks Arena...
My dad took me to my first pro card and it was a doozy...Tough Terry Young a stablemate of Graziano was aptly named...
Also remember handsome Tony Janiro with the curley blond hair.What a prospect he was, but he loved the chicks more than his career...I saw miost all the great fighters of the time,except Louis and Sugar Ray who I would see fight at MSG...Ah the good old days!!!b.b.
P.S. correct about Robinson...Everyone's attention was focused on his
magnetism...We can never see his likes again....

 

When I saw SRL in the Olympics, F, with his blazing hand speed, combinations 'n gleaming smile, I thought he was the closest thing I'd seen to SRR. If I had to say what made the difference between them. Couple thing come to mind:

In spite of being smooth as silk, at his core, SRR was a coiled STONE KILLER -- flat-out vicious. Not only did he have the eraser in both hands, but every punch in his combos had lights out written on it. Definitely NOT shoeshines. Plus, pretty as he was; he was no poseur -- would shake off anything 'n come roaring back. Aside from his gifts, he was as much a tartar as Harry Greb.

 

So do we agree SRR made the first one a close teaser for the rematch, then the real SRR showed up!

It does seem like that yeah, although Gavilan commented about him being in better shape the second time so could it have been that he just wasn't in best shape for their first encounter?

Thanks a lot, one writer counted how many films there are of a Prime Ray and I think he came to about 7 films, but he said they were all very short, grainy and very choppy. How do you find his fights with Riccio and Fusari if thyere all numbered, there must be an easier way that going thorugh all the fights, any idea?

I can't find the Riccio one now, I sent the guy a message yesterday about naming them so I'm hoping he'll get back to me soon.

Cool, thnaaks for askin him, makes things a lot easier, if there are people that have got more footage of him and its not been released, then that really does suck.
