I think ring magazine has some sort of hatred towards ezzard charles, in both of thier lists, they have ezzard outside the top 10, which is mad insane. His resume eclipses anyone not named greb or robinson.

 

Or Bob Fitzimmons and Sam Langford Imight add!!

 

good question. Better question is who did Duran beat to be rated that high. Only great he beat was Leonard, and he didn't knock him out and was outclassed in the rematch and rubbermatch.

 

Napoles at 15 is ridiculous.. And Holmes at 17 is a pretty good place actually.

 

and Hearns should be closer to Hagler at about 19. Just because Hagler beat him does not necessarily make him rated over Hearns. Hearns beat Cuevas and Benitez and Duran before he even fought Hagler, and fought Ray in a rematch. Then later he beat Virgil Hill and drew with Ray.

btw. I think that´s the best historical ring list I´ve seen. It´s still bad but their best ... go figure.

 

Duran beat buchanon, a legit hall of famer and Ernesto marcel, you know the guy who soundily outboxed argeullo and is a hall of famer himself. De Jesus, palomino, cuevas, moore, barkley(the guy who blasted hearns), hector thompson, mamby, kobayashi and on top of that a win over sugar ray leonard. Yes duran deserves his rankings. You have to realize he's smaller than the fab 4 guys, hes not the same size as them.

 

He ranks him as the greatest LHW and #6 as a HW. I think he does, but don't know.

 

Yeah, and then ranks him #24 P4P, below Marcel Cerdan...

 

He's quite the character. That really confuses me, but nothing surprises me with that man he could've been bullshiting about Charles as the #1 LHW.
