Paul Williams ready to turn 29 and has accomplished very little

  1. And? Antonio Tarver didn't KO the "great" RJJ until the tender age of 35. Paul has plenty of time.

I actually think Herb has a point here, but he's phrasing it all wrong. PW hasn't accomplished much COMPARED TO the amount of hype that he tends to get on here. He's made out to be some kind of future ATG, and he just hasn't done enough to get that kind of recognition yet.

And this no one will fight him business has to stop. He gets plenty of chances to prove his greatness. The guys he gets in the ring with him are guys anyone would give him respect for if he wins. I mean Martinez is one of the most respected guys in boxing today, and PW had a shot at him. Margarito, pre-plastergate was one of the most respected guys, and PW got him. Cintron, yeah people hate him but no sane fan would discount a win over someone with his power and natural talent. So, guys DO fight him, guys he will get tonnes of credit for beating. If by "most avoided" he means little Pac and little Floyd don't want to fight someone 6-8 inches taller than them for not a whole lot of money, then PTP doesn't really have much of a case there.

Paul has beaten everyone he's stepped in the ring with, fact. So there's no big knock on him. BUT, the Martinez win was by no means definite, I would not say he's settled the score of who's the better fighter between the two of them yet (especially considering Sergio took the fight last second and went up to 160 for the first time). The Cintron fight, through no fault of PW, wasn't really a win. So, when you look at his resume atm, you get wins over Quintana (who Cotto had already KOed in 5), old Winky, and Margarito. Is that really all that impressive? Not yet.

I watched the fight & still don't know what u r talking about because I had Cintron winning up until the stoppage.... but, by all means, plzzzzzz do tell me what you mean by "Williams beat Cintron." Or maybe u r referring to the undeserved "official" W he got that night.... to me, that's unfinished business....Cintron clearly stated he would like to settle this out in a later rematch, but we all know William's ways............ Margarito, QUINTANA, MARTINEZ, plus all the other ones that have called him out like Dzinziruk & Clottey! This guy is a joke!!!

+1. For the record I am disrespecting the OP. OP name one of your favorite fighters so we can rip them to shreds.

Actually Paul has one of the most solid resumes in the game.

I had Martinez win that one, but it was very close. I cant take that away from Paul. Im eagerly awaiting a rematch, but neither team wants it right now.

He beat Margarito when Margarito was supposed to be this monster everyone was scared of.

Mosley, Cotto, Pac and Floyd have and always will pretend that Williams does not exist. I actually think Floyd and Pac can beat him rather decisively, but they wont try it.

Williams biggest problem is his team, along with most fighters in the sport. If you look at the belt rankings vs the rankings by the promotion company, websites, etc it is a very different picture. Paul Williams accomplished being a champion at 147, but he didn't try sticking around to try and unify, and I believe that has more to do with weight problems than being ducked. He gained the title from Margarito, loses it to Quintana, wins it a month before Margarito wins the title from Cotto, and then calls out Margarito. I'm sure Margarito could have fought him, but he probably wanted an "easy" fight with name recognition (he just fought Clottey, Williams, Cintron, and Cotto), and probably a little bit of a **** you for not giving him the immediate rematch. There on Williams has fought at 160 and 154 and he's called out everyone with a name, but hasn't fought for a title or tried raising up the ranks. If Williams wants a shot at the big boys he needs to get a title and bring something to the table.

Williams is a good fighter and he has an outside chance of being an ATG. I think he needs another team, especially a new trainer. He should be thanful he didn't get the rematch with Margarito, especially if Margarito fought him bricked up, the way PW takes shots, there is an outside chance a homicide would've occurred that night.

How do you know Winky is shot? He might not fight alot but people thought Bernard was shot too when he lost to Taylor. Martinez is a multiple weight champion, how can you discount that victory? Margarito was a champion.

Who the hell is Dzinziruk? I never even heard of the guy. Paul should try to fight the Martinez rematch or fight Cotto. I think he'd be better off fighting Martinez in the rematch and winning another title. Then he can force a Cotto fight.

He doesnt need to change anything. He just needs to keep winning. How long did it take for Bernard Hopkins to receive recognition? ATG status doesn't come in your 20s, it comes in your 30s. He will probably beat some of the top 168lbers before his career is over. I can see him beating Pavlik, I can see him beating Miranda, I can see him beating Dirrell who will run and hold, I can see him beating Kessler. But first he has to beat all the little guys up and also they have to not be afraid to fight him.

Paul Williams should make himself their mandatory. He should do what Holyfield does. That is challenge all the top ranked fighters until you are the #1 mandatory in that weightclass and all the champions have to fight you. I expect Cotto and Martinez to duck him for a while so he should just fight every 4 months and beat up on a janitor until he gets a title shot and then win the titile. He could probably become Berto's mandatory this way.
