Source - Bxrec Most of you will probably only know Sam from his 3 defeats, the 2 round blow out by Cello Renda in a British title eliminator (where Sam fought the total wrong fight and went hell for leather with banger Renda instead of using his boxing skills), his 5th round defeat to James DeGale at Upton Park (in what I thought was one of DeGale's best performances) and Wednesday's 1st round defeat to eventual winner Patrick Mendy in Prizefighter. However I've enjoyed watching Sam locally over the last few years and he's been a good solid Area/English title. He retires at only 24 leaving a 15-3 record and has won the International Masters and Midlands Area super middleweight belts which is definitely something to be proud of, all the best to him.
doubt this wiil be the last we hear of sam horton, i think he'll be hurting after his loss to mendy and will probably take a break and realise it was too early to retire
Probably mate, it stinks of heat of the moment decision, and I know he's getting married soon so maybe a nice little break then have a think about it in a few months time.
He had a good run. If he's the type of lad who wants to be best in his chosen craft then he be best retiring. Stopped in his 3 defeats and if he continues he be stopped again at the highest domestic level. He tough lad and can have a career at area level. As you say bit of heat of the moment decision. Probably be back in ring in 4 months.
Good luck to the lad. Gets quite a bit of stick on here (especially after the DeGale fight) which is totally unnecessary. I hope he returns after his studies and spending time with his family, as I feel he still has something to offer at Area level.
:nono Lol. Seriously though I just like to give some of the local fighters a bit of a heads up on the boards. For me its not just about Pay-Per-View, world titles etc. Some of the best nights and best fights I've seen have been small hall shows, for area titles etc.
Good on you SK, feel for Sam he wasn't bad. Was just on the fringes of a break through but not quite good enough. Still won a title didn't he. Every credit to him.
