You need to be quick (but not as quick if you have good timing), harder hitting and comfortable changing styles as the aggressor or the boxer, and you need to have quick feet.

SRL and Hearns would handle Floyd. He has no stylistic advantage against either - they did everything he did, better than he did, against better opposition.

Also, Marquez is prepared to stand with Manny and back him up, that isn't a major feature of Floyd's game, though he has done it (Judah, Mosley, later rounds versus Hatton).

DLH was basically pitching a shut out on Floyd with just a jab and soft flurry punches the first half of the fight.

Today, I end the myth that one needs to be some kind of vicious punching machine to cut down emmanuel's punch output.

Void has the advantage here as he can do it DURING the rounds. He doesn't need to wait in between three minute intervals.

Void is a very crafty fighter. Whenever emmanuel doesn't retaliate right away, there are plenty of options for Void. He can potshot and then clinch. Potshot and control the distance by smothering emmanuel in the pocket.

emmanuel isn't that great at cutting off the ring, and Void has better footwork. It'll take fight night to convince you what I just said. It's emmanuel's FOOT SPEED that will be a major pro for him in this fight.

Cotto was able to do it. Emmanuel is a good fighter, but he's not hard to hit at all.

Clinching serves lots of tactical purposes.

It's not Void's power that hurts people. It's his accuracy, speed, timing, and surprise factor. Mosley was still able to fight back against Cotto, but with Void he got rocked and ended up looking dumb.

uhh.. that was only JMM's stat. Where's Floyd's stats?

Not necessarily. Floyd can do it during rounds. But I rarely see him and Roger formulate a plan during training. Preparing and formulating strategies and tactics during training can be just as advantageous as devising a strategy/tactic on the fly. Roach isn't a slouch either in advising Pac in between rounds on what he should do.

Yes, whenever Pac doesn't retaliate right away. But that is few and far in-between. Pac tends to punch back more than he resets. So those options of Floyd are few and far in-between as well. Potshot and control of distance won't be as effective if he is being overwhelmed majority of the time. He won't be able to set up his shots and traps as much if he has to deal with incoming punches majority of the time.

Yes, it'll take fight night to really convince me of that. Because Floyd's movement is not the same as Cotto's movement in the last rounds against Pac. Floyd never moves all around the ring constantly like what Cotto did. What Floyd does is stand in front of his opponent, get a hit or 2 then move. He then stands in front of his opponent again, get a hit or 2 then moves again.

That's how Floyd moves. So Pac won't need to cut the ring that much. He can time Floyd whenever Floyd stands in front of him. That's where Pac's in and out movement comes into play.

Cotto was able to land with his jabs. But contrary to popular belief, it wasn't all that much. He only landed 27% of his jabs on Pac(Pac matched that with 27% of jabs landed as well). Cotto only landed 79/297 jabs throughout the fight. It wasn't really hitting its mark that much ain't it? Not even near half the time.

Not to mention Pac has learned to counter off the jab of his opponent.

But it's far from being the dagger, as they say. Clinching is sort of a supplement to one's fighting style. Its only very effective if the fighter's other assets or abilities are also working very good. And in this case, a number of Floyd's assets or abilities won't be working that well against Pac, IMO.

It'll surely help Floyd, but I don't think it'll be enough.

Mosley was rocked more times in the Cotto fight. If you watched it again, you'll see what I'm saying. And the reason Mosley was not able to fight back against Floyd(compared to Cotto) was not because of Floyd's power. He just couldn't figure Floyd out. Simple as that. He couldn't defend against Floyd's punches and counter-punches. After round 2, he found he couldn't hit Floyd at all. He couldn't anticipate him.

That's the reason why Mosley looked dumbfounded throughout the fight. It wasn't about Floyd's power, man.

If Manny can average 100 punches a round against Floyd it will be a huge accomplishment. Baring the first castillo fight, mayweather has been able to make his opponent fight at his pace. We've seen Pac sucked into a tactical battle twice against JMM (a less talented tactician than mayweather) and I believe the same would happen if PAC and May fight.

i agree with what some people said of how you needed to take floyd out early before he figures you out, but i don't hink there's any fighter who could take floyd out in less than 5 rds. including Pac. i think one would need a fighter with a good chin, relentless aggression, and who can tweak his own style to prevent floyd figuring him out, or at least delay this. Pac is the closest to doing this, but i have doubts regarding his adapability, and the ability to keep floyd guessing. I saw the face off w/pac and clottey where pac says he watches tapes of his opponents constantly, after being asked how he prepares for his opponents, and just watching tapes won't work against mayweather.

You really need to see stats to know that Floyd only averages about 40 punches per round? Even the commentators talk about it.

They don't show you a lot of things about their training. 24/7 makes it clear about how secretive team Mayweather is. During the Ndou fight Floyd revealed that Roger told him his overhand right was going to land all night. It's foolish to think Floyd doesn't come in with any game plans at all just because he's not public about it.

Not when he gets hit sharply. emmanuel just like every other fighter is human, he needs a bit of time to regain himself after being tagged nice. That nice left hook Marquez landed on him had him weird for awhile.

Watch the Hatton fight to see Floyd effectively use movement around the ring. Floyd won't ever have to move around like Cotto, his heart and ego won't let him go into survival mode like that.

pac is going to out-Floyd Floyd by countering him? Look at what happened to Marquez. Floyd even countered Mosley's counter in their fight.:patsch

Floyd's jab is extremely accurate, he landed 50% of them in his last two fights.

Take a look at how Marquez was able to cut down pac's output by throwing a low volume of punches, Floyd's abilities will work fine. Pac is too easy to hit, and Floyd counters very well. pac is a sucker for right hands, and Floyd has the best one.

I rather hit like Floyd and have people lost than punch hard like Cotto. Making someone lost or hurt will still create enough time to move into safety.

I don't know if it was mentioned before, but a stronger willed prime smarter version of Zab Judah would do the trick. I mean when they fought I almost thougt Zab was gonna take the fight based on the early rounds. He actually knocked Floyd down before the ref. waived it off. The question is where can we find some one as tough as castillo and as natuarally gifted as a prime Judah?

First Pac needs to get Void into a ring, which seems to be impossible.

Floyd "Duck One Punch at a time sub-par chin avoid elite fighters who are under 33" Mayweather is undefeated. He is so unbeatable they gave Manny fighter of the decade.
If it smells like a suspect chin it must be a suspect chin. Just a coincidence he has yet to face the ten best fighters of his era under the age of 35. HBO created the machine.
HBO will terminate it. Termination by retirement or by Manny knocking him out.
Hatton and Oscar never won a second of a round vs Manny. He has looked unbeatable and is undefeated above 140. His last two fights sum up his career. Don't think for a second that the man who dragged JMM up to weight 8% higher than any weight he fought in his life and beating 39 year old Shane off an 18 month layoff is anything other than a pre determined out come.

Everything in life is balance. What will balance the scales if Floyd fights Manny is the weak and handicapped (not physically but in terms of criteria) opposition that Floyd faced. Shane made Floyd feel something he never had to deal with his entire career. You saw the look on his face at the end of round 2. Manny will either scare Floyd into retirement or knock him into retirement and finish what Shane was paid NOT to do.
