There is the answer to the last few questions Ash! People Value "WORLD CLASS RUGBY LEAGUE PLAYERS" like they are actually world class athletes.

After the last fight the telegraph referred to Mundine as a " boxing showman"rather than a boxer. Interest chose of words ,isn't it.

Boxon I think they nailed it,when you look at World Championship Wrestling its all theater and pretty ordinary acting really, having said that they seem to attract massive crowds of red neck losers who are easily fooled to these events, for the life of me can not understand why.!!!!

Then you look at the Mundine Roadshow and fair dinkum the similarities are obvious, its all staged and manipulated the quality of the performers when you delve a bit deeper is very ordinary, true knowledgable Boxing fans can see it's a fraud, but there are still quite a few Loyal Fans who think that this stuff being served up is the real deal and lovingly swallow the lies and propaganda like hungry Pelicans.

Sort of admire them a bit sticking with there Idols when the glaring Obvious suggests they are being taken for a ride, but feel sorry for them a bit also when all there adulation and support could be put to support a true Aussie Champ at the moment like Katsidis, but different strokes for different folks I suppose.!!!!

Noticed that too B123, and did think 'how appropriate', as I'm sure you did.

Oz, your comments are all spot on in my view. I think there are only a handfull of " enlightened " fight fans in Australia. I think this has always been the case at least in my life time (I'm 37) (You sound a bit older than me so you may have lived through the golden era of boxing). Let's face it, the majority of the crowd (not the whole crowd) at fights these days are there to see knockouts/blood and don't really know what getting in the ring is all about.
Mike Coleman in the Brisbane Courier mail writes some good articles about real Australian Champion Fighters. He often talks about the likes of Kats, Vic and a while back Peden.
Even talking to people on the street these days that aren't real fight fans, it is pretty clear to them that Mundine rock show has become a farce. I don't really blame Mundine, he is making his family money and working the crowd. I blame the media for preferring to give the Mundine rock show air time instead those that deserve it like Kats and Vic.

Teke... the day kiddies rank Mandy beside his Father is an ETERNITY away. Do you know why?? Because there are people alive today that understand the game better than you and I. They will place balanced words into script, screen or any other forum of media to ensure the legacy of Tony Mundine is credited accordingly... as with Mandy's.

Those who rate the likes of Tony Mundine today have good reason to do so. His record of acheivments is brilliant.

The fabric of Mandy's career has turned quite transperant over recent years.. wouldn't you say??

The highlighted words.. lol.. you are joking, right???

Choc has always been 4 himself nobody else. He did good 4 boxing cause he got people 2 come and watch him fight. Boxing isnt and never will b that big of a sport in Oz.
Most people in Oz dont no the difference between boxing and brawling.

Brocky.. Oz was once the biggest boxing platform on the planet and continued to be a mammoth stable for 50+ years. Crowds of 10,000 and 15,000 were common place to witness STATE title bouts, let alone National, International or NON TITLE bouts.

The introduction of TV halted the huge crowds attending fights week in week out and the Pay TV spectacle has given the current game a new level of 'what the ****??'

Choc definately enticed crowds to see him live.. freebies work wonders..

Now people continue to frequent the local boozers to see him KO'd... and as we'll see for the rest of his career, most typically 'boxing associated' pubs will not be showing the PPV rip offs provided by TeamMoney.

Choc was a great athlete... but who wants to see a possibly brillant sprinter do a canter throughout the last half of his career??

    That's the lasting legacy.

You could.... Who wants to see a potentially great sprinter do a canter throughout the last half of his career against a bunch of nuffies....

Disappointing to say the least. Even if he was to step up again, there's been too many years wasted

.....If only Kats or Vic played rugby league.....they could have been well known in Australia! :patsch
