Hearns in the De La Hoya Era ...

At 147, Hearns can beat any of those guys, but I also think a few of those guys, namely Mosley, have a chance at wearing him out. I can see Tommy tiring down the stretch like he did against Leonard and SSM turning it up.

154 is another story. I don't think any of the aforementioned fighters have a chance against Tommy at this weight. Hearns is far stronger here.

 

The Hitman is my man..This is the dude that turend me into a boxing fan forever..

That said..I think at 147,DeLaHoya has the best chance because of his movement..which he would need against The Hitman...and he also had a great counter-left hook...and with Tommy's chin..But if Tommy gets to him first,it's all over...The rest I don't see surviving Hearns superb firepower..I just can't see any of these guys standing up to that power and speed..Mosley maybe...trouble is,fast as he was,he simply did'nt have the feet to stay away from Hearns reach...a puncher's chance,thats all he's got.

At 154..none make it to the final round..This was Tommy's best wait..Did'nt stay too long at it..but here he is just too strong for any of these dudes...Lights out.

On paper fight for fight you would have to take Hearns over all of them. But he doesn't have the greatest of chins and once he's hurt he stays hurt. If he was fighting in that era I wouldn't expect him to stay undefeated.

Hearns vs Tito would be a case of bombs away - he who lands first, lands last. Kind of a McClellan vs Jackson in the welterweight division.

 

Hearns did show the ability to recover when hurt against Leonard imo.

 

I agree and I even highly rate this welterweight era. Quartey, Forrest...very underrated guys to me. Very strong competitors. Good 154 era too. Winky deserves his mention here.

 

Hearns hits all of these guys before they hit him.

 

I think Shane would have a chance. The others would in for a long or perhaps very short night.

 

I for one dont have that much skepticism about Hearns consistency and ability to come out on top of that era.

In the first 10 years of his career he only lost to Leonard and Hagler...And went down pushing those guys to the limit..Who of that crop would you rate as good as them?

He smashed some very good fighters...fighters as good as if not better than the ones of this very strong era being mentioned.

Yes he does get beaten at some point...But I dont feel at 147 or 154 against those fighters, when he is at the peak of his powers.
He loses when he tests the water at middle against Hopkins or if that fight never eventuated possibly dropping the ball against a puncher like Pavlik later on when he is into his 30's and fading...and of course at a higher weight.

Mosley I dont think troubles him...Tommy hurts him from range and takes his heart like Forrest did.

Call me crazy but I think a dark horse like Mayorga or Margarito might be the best bet here to upset him..More so because I think Tommy might take them more lightly than the others and therefore get dragged into their fight.
But as I said before I dont have many doubts about Hearns keeping focused and consistent at those weights, against those fighters for that time period...and thus coming out on top.
