everyone tells me im doing great but it might just be a psychological thing... ive been training for 2 months.. first few times i sparred i got my ass kicked.. now i mostly hold my own.. sometimes get beat up and sometimes do the beaten up..i know its only been 2 months but at 6'1 260 i feel by now i should be running the ring.. just makes me feel as if i dont have the potential to be great
what happens? you get hit hard a couple of times and you start to think you are losing? don't let them read you or control you... use your head. throw feints... then you will see openings more. Don't be so direct where you can be figured out.
its more like somedays ill spar and do good.. other days ill get spanked.. its not consistent at all and its killing my confidence
Maybe you just have good people in your gym? Which is actually a good thing, they're preparing you for the real fights
2 months??!! You wont be dominating in a year let alone two months!! I've been boxing only a year and a half and I beat most of my partners, struggle with some of the bigger, older lads. 2 months is nothing, don't be worrying about winning in sparring, worry about getting your punches right, your feet right and your general movement right.
Start from there then. Don't rush into anything when you can't do it properly. At my first club the coaches didn't know anything, they taught us things that if I had faught under them would have had me knocked out. All that sparring at that club did was give me a headache. I'm at a better club now, they prettty much told me to start over, we worked on footwork and keeping tight while throwing punches first, then we developed that with padwork and then we got into sparring, when I was . Practice moving like you would in the ring while shadow boxing, try to find an empty space in the gym. A good drill is soft sparring with a partner, you put on gloves and just throw soft punches while you make sure you are getting all of your movement correct. The emphasis is on footwork and headmovement and technique not taking eachother's head off. I'm definately no expert, but this worked for me. I'd say try it out, it may not work for you, but it has helped me and alot of boxers I know.
