Roy Jones Jr Best Performance

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I've heard a stat or story claiming that in Paz fight, there was a round where Vinny's glove literally never touched Roy's body. I saw this fight when I was younger and haven't seen it since. Anyone know if this is true.

But to answer the thread's question, I'm a fan of Griffin 2, Hill, Toney, and Ruiz (despite Ruiz being the worse heavyweight champ ever)

The Toney fight was a masterpiece, he made a great fighter look very bad and ordinary.

One of my faves is the fight vs Merqui Sosa. Sosa was huge and had just given Prince Charles Williams 2 frightful fights and Jones DESTROYED him, forget about a quick stoppage Sosa was done!!

The 2nd Montell Griffin fight was amazing, Jones tore him apart!! What a way to avenge a loss.. Even though Griffin was on his way out and given a gift in the first fight via the dq.

Vergil Hill, nasty body shot KO over a very good long time LTHW champ.

And then the Ruiz fight. Say what you want about Ruiz but Jones DOMINATED a guy who always seemed beatable but most guys couldn't get the job done against him, Jones did and there was no doubt..

Roy beat a lot of fighters more deceiving than Michalewski. Gonzales went down, every time Roy touched him, while he won against Dariusz.
Hopins was green but was older than Jones and had more fights, pro and amateur i think.

I pick the toney fight, roy's footwork and defense dazzled Toney.

 

Hopkins had more pro fights but less amateur fights, I consider Jones to be green at that time as well. So it is still a great win for Jones

The Toney fight has to be his best performance, its a shame King stopped the fight with Benn from happening as that would of been a great fight as well

 

yup, i believe it was the fifth round. he and mayweather are the only 2 in compubox history to do that

 

Apart from the often mentioned ones like Toney, Griffin 2, Ruiz, what about Richard Hall? That was a big, hard punching guy who forced DM to dig really deep and Roy toyed with him. Great performance in my book, also classy from Roy that he was reluctant todo more damge when the ref didn't stop it at the right time.

 

I love his fight with Brannon. Here you have a fearless, bullrushing opponent who tried everything to take Jones out of there, but Roy kept his cool, countered off the ropes, knocked him down with a body shot (left hook to the liver) and basically just destroyed him.

 

I cant understand someone picking the Paz fight it was more or less a beatdown on a midget. For level of opposition, Toney, for most spectacular finish (or start) Griffin II. Probably Toney.

 

my favourite roy jones performance was against calzaghe. many rojo's backed the proven banned anabolic steroid user jones before the fight to win, and roy didn't let them down, coming out like a warrior in the 1st round and catching calzaghe with one of the most viscious illegal forearms every seen in an american ring.

i loved the way roy showed his amazing speed and reflexes in the 3rd round when a shot to **** calzaghe was dropping his hands and poking his face through jones' guard, also it was great to see jones smile at the end of round 3 when calzaghe did the infamous 'boogie woogie'. you could tell that roy was thinking to himself "well at least he didn't bend me over and do the boogie woogie like he did to borenard, no matter what happens tonight, theres no way i'm gonna let a white boy bend me over and dry hump me in front of a live audience of millions"

i also loved the guts that jones showed in the 8th round when brittle hands calzaghe opened up a huge cut with his powder puff shots, blood trickling down roys pathetic, scrunched up, feel sorry for me face. i loved the way that jones never gave up and showed he could fight in adveristy for the 1st time in his career instead of folding like a lawn chair.

you just couldn't help but respect jones for the way he came out for the 12th round and touched gloves with a man who had completely outclassed him and demonstrated an elite skill set in one of the biggest one sided beatdowns ever witnessed in an american ring :vonnecunt



that was my favourite roy jones performance but theres so many to choose from with all those civil servants and sanitation workers that got dismantled :think
