David Tua V Monte Barrett

Looks like Tua's chance at a title shot might be over after that fight.

 

Tua done, almost shot. Just doing it for the money I guess, his motivation and chin isnt what it was and his timing is shot to ****. Respect for Monte Barrett who is ballsy especially in his last fight but he was slow and sloppy and a younger Tua would have had him out quick.
Sad for me because Tua was better than that and he wont get respect from many of the cybernerds in General

I would possibly favour Leapai or almost anyone thats half decent vs Tua at this stage, but I would hate to see an ex top contender of Tuas reputation become a punchbag for locals or anyone, he needs to retire asap.

He was lucky to come away with the draw. Fortunately for him Kushner had it already planned out so he can get his world title shot which I personally think will be sad to see if he fights like that again. Better get his act together!

You could be right mate. After that performance though Tua doesnt have much of a chance against the Klitschko brothers.

 

Tend to agree about his chances now but that means hes got a better chance of a shot now he looks a bit more shot IMO

 

Tua got lucky with the judges bigtime.

 

Got away with the draw,good to see that he's went straight to the upper end of the scale to see were he stands,he's not a hungry young fighter anymore so ofcourse he was a little off his A game,he was a top contender in his prime,living up to that is difficult.I wouldn't write him off as yet though I still think theres a bit left in the tank.This fight would have the vultures circling overhead and a title shot I think is closer than ever.

 

Barrett is not exactly upper end of the scale. Haye got vilified for his performance against him. Tua scraped a draw and got floored cleanly. He needs another fight before he is written off, it could have been a very very very off night for him.

It wasnt an off night, hes very obviously past it, his timing was terrible and he was easier to hit than normal by a very slow sloppy fighter.
His punch resistance is not what it was many years ago either, Ive suspected he was a little gunshy vs lesser names like Cisse Salif and hes even more so now after his layoff when he went over 300lbs and perhaps mentally retired.
Certainly not the immovable little guy who went to war with a succession of top contenders pre 2000

Respect to Barrett who Ive always liked but we knew he was past it and now we know Tua is also, and he should retire.

 

Tua needs to come to the ring 230lbs....the lighter weight will help his workrate and movement....237lbs for Tua these days is too heavey IMO
