That's what I don't get. If Barrett wouldn't have dropped Tua he'd have lost on all three cards. Even though the result would be the same it wouldn't look THAT bad if at least one of them had him ahead. Anything from Barrett by 1 to 3 would be fair with the deduction and KD..... Tua by 4 is a joke.
He did seem to be a bit biased towards Tua throughout the fight. Even in the 10th when Barret had a great round, ending with Tua looking decidedly shaky, all the Colonel said was that Barrett may have edged the round. However, whenever Tua landed a good left hook (which wasn't that often), Bob made out that Barrett was in some kind of serious trouble (which he wasn't). As soon as it became apparant that Tua wasn't going to blow Monty away, I guessed there would be some kind of controversy with the scoring....
Did anybody else think it a bit odd the way both fighters didn't seem to be at all interested when the scores were being announced? Even after the announcement neither man seemed to be at all bothered either. Perhaps Bob Sheridan gave them the heads up, he seemed to know what was coming.....
The fighters usually know the result before the announcement. If you want to know a result early just check out the look on the cornermens faces, they've usually been tipped the wink before the cards have reached the MC. I think Barratt was retiring anyway and Tua was very grateful for the draw.
What a rigged match. I got robbed. I bet on Monte to win at $11 : 1, I had him winning 115-111 after scoring the final round 10-7. Total set up. I have followed Tua my whole life, but Monte clearly won that fight and Tua should've retired after beating Shane Cameron. This draw was a stitch-up to let Tua keep milking the come-back bull ****.
Having seen it all now, I had it 114-112 Barrett. Tua's 12th-round meltdown cost him the win, it should've cost him the draw. He gassed really badly after the 6th, up to that point he was winning and had the bigger rounds.
Big respect to Monte, no-one gave him a chance in this fight and I think most would agree that he deserved the decision by 1-3 points. I'm glad to see that he finished his career on a, slightly tarnished, high :good
I definitely thought it was horrible match-making when it was announced. Monte had been picking up some beatings in recent years.
the one thing that pisses me even more about the draw, more than monte getting robbed but the fact tua will prolly be facing one of the champions next...simply because he's a name and there's still money in it even though now i truly believe tua is past it....he will get brutalized by any of the champions and it will not be a fight that i will enjoy watching
